Cain was roughed up for five runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings Sunday. He walked three and struck out one in an eventual win over the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
The Giants' offense bailed Cain out in this one, making a big comeback to take the him off the hook for the loss. Even though he avoided his sixth loss of the season, the veteran's struggles continued of late, posting a 7.13 ERA and 1.0 K/BB ratio over his last eight starts. Three of his last four starts have been against favorable opponents, so Cain isn't even a streaming option until he shows some some life on the mound.

Cain (3-5) allowed five runs on 10 hits and two walks over five innings in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Brewers. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran righty continued his recent struggles, and Cain now has a 6.45 ERA, 1.88 WHIP and 10:7 K:BB over 22.1 innings while losing his last four starts. His next trip to the mound is scheduled for Sunday at home against the Twins, but the Giants may need to begin thinking about other options for their rotation if Cain doesn't turn things around soon.

Cain (3-4) gave up three runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out three over five innings in a 3-1 loss to the Nationals on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran pitched out of trouble all night, stranding five Nationals in scoring position through five frames. This was the fourth time in five starts where Cain surrendered two earned runs or less, but the Giants' struggling offense has only provided him with one win over that span. The 32-year-old's 4.37 ERA is a marked improvement over last year's 5.64 ERA, but his career-low 1.5 K/BB ratio makes the righty a high-risk, low-upside fantasy option.

Cain (3-3) gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk over seven innings in Friday's 2-0 loss to the Braves. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander had the misfortune of going up against an uncharacteristically brilliant Jaime Garcia, who helped ensure that Cain received no run support on the night. Cain was impressive in his own right, throwing 64 of 92 pitches for strikes in what was a performance reminiscent of his younger days. The 32-year-old has actually put together some strong starts this season, but they've been interspersed with a pair of rocky outings where he's given up nine and seven earned runs, respectively. Friday marked his fourth quality start of the season, and seventh where he's given up two earned runs or less. He'll look to get above .500 when he takes on a tough Nationals lineup at home next Wednesday.

Cain (3-2) allowed seven runs on nine hits (one homer) while walking three and striking out one over 5.1 innings in Sunday's 8-3 loss to the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Cain is now 0-4 in six regular season starts at Busch Stadium, the home of the Cardinals. The veteran right-hander has pitched well at home with a 3-0 record and 1.19 ERA but has struggled on the road, going 0-2 with an 8.28 ERA. It was a disappointing outing after Cain had allowed only three runs in 11.2 innings over his previous two starts, but his ERA now sits at 4.91 on the year to go with a mediocre 6.2 K/9 over 47.2 frames. This outing is a reminder that Cain is prone to blowup outings like this one from time to time, but he can be a useful streaming option in the right matchups.

Cain (3-1) allowed one run on five hits while walking three and striking out five over 6.2 innings in Monday's 8-4 win over the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander lowered his season ERA to 4.04 with the 112-pitch effort. It was Cain's second win against the Dodgers this year -- he tossed six shutout innings against them for a win back on April 24. He also became the 12th pitcher in franchise history to reach the 2,000-innings mark in the third inning Monday. Aside from a nine-run blowup May 5, Cain has been pretty solid this year. However, his upside remains limited due to his mediocre strikeout rate and recent injury history.

Cain gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits and a pair of walks over five innings against the Mets on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
After he got annihilated for nine runs his last time out, this was certainly better, but Cain certainly wasn't impressive, and he was lifted for a pinch hitter after 78 pitches. Other than that Cinco de Mayo disaster in Cincy, though, the veteran has been surprisingly effective this year. Still, his 4.54 ERA doesn't look good, and his 4.39 FIP and 4.98 xFIP don't offer much hope for improvement.

Cain (2-1) was shelled for nine runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out six over 3.1 innings to take the loss Friday against the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Cain allowed three runs in the first inning and never got on track, leading to his first loss of the season. His poor outing broke a string of four starts in which he allowed one or fewer runs, and he'll continue to be an inconsistent fantasy option with upside, especially when he starts in a pitcher's park. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the Mets.

Cain pitched excellently Saturday against the Padres, allowing just one run on six hits to go with seven strikeouts in five innings of work, although he walked away with a no-decision.
EDGE Analysis
The hamstring issue nagging the veteran starter since his last start didn't appear to hinder him Saturday, as he managed to produce a season-high in the strikeout category while firing 57 of his 86 offerings for strikes. Cain's strong showing also lowered his ERA to 2.30, the lowest mark of his career. Unfortunately, the bullpen squandered his outstanding outing as soon as he left the game, but he'll look to produce a victory in his next start Friday against the Reds.

Cain will make his scheduled start Saturday against the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Cain left his previous start Monday with a hamstring injury, but it appears he's ready to go following a clean MRI. The veteran right-hander is off to a great start his season with a 2.42 ERA and 15 strikeouts, plus has a 7.9 K/9 against Colorado in his career.
