An MRI on Cain's injured right hamstring came back clean Tuesday and he expects to make his next start against the Padres on Saturday, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cain exited his Monday start early after experiencing hamstring tightness. It appears that the injury wasn't anything too serious as the veteran hurler expects to be ready for his next start. Cain is off to a nice start this season, posting a 2.42 ERA over 22.1 innings.

Cain (hamstring) had X-rays done on his hamstring and foot and the results came back negative, NBC Sport's Alex Pavlovic reports.
EDGE Analysis
It turns out that Cain left his strong outing Monday due to hamstring tightness. It appears that he avoided a major injury, but the veteran has had hamstring issues in the past, so we will have to wait to see if he makes his next turn in the rotation. Cain fired six scoreless innings prior to exiting the game, lowering his ERA to an impressive 2.42 through four starts.

Cain left Monday's start against the Dodgers with an undisclosed injury, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cain left with a trainer after apparently feeling some discomfort after his warm-up pitches before the seventh inning. He was dealing, having tossed six shutout innings and needing just 70 pitches to do so. Cain's ERA dropped to 2.43 in the process, as he is enjoying one of his best stretches in years. Hopefully this injury proves to be minor, because we haven't seen this Cain in a long time.

Cain (1-0) allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out three over seven innings but had to settle for a no-decision in Tuesday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
It's his first quality start of the season. Cain's 3.31 ERA looks good so far, but his 12:8 K:BB in 16.1 innings and career-low 89.4 mph average fastball velocity suggest his luck may not last much longer. His next start comes Monday at home against the Dodgers.

Cain (1-0) fired five strong innings to pick up the win Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on five hits and three walks to go with six strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Outside of a leadoff triple to A.J. Pollock, Cain was humming along during this outing. The right-hander did come out to pitch the sixth but was removed after allowing the first two batters of the inning to reach base. His control was a little less than desired (51 of his 92 offerings went for strikes), but the surprising strikeout numbers offset those concerns. Cain's next opportunity to take the hill is scheduled to come Tuesday against the Royals.

Cain (0-0) allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three over 4.1 innings, but received no decision Friday against the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Cain was blasted in his first start of the season, but a grand slam by Brandon Belt gave the Giants a brief lead, taking the righty off the hook for a potential loss. After posting a career-worst 5.79 ERA along with a 1.51 WHIP last season, it's looking like the veteran's best days are behind him. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Cain will take the ball on turn Friday in San Diego, NBC Sports Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic reports.
EDGE Analysis
There was talk that the Giants could give Madison Bumgarner the ball Friday and take advantage of Monday's off day, but Cain will make the fifth start of the year despite being easily the worst starter in the rotation. He will face Luis Perdomo in what has the potential to be a pretty high-scoring game. The one shining light is that he will face a Padres offense that is pretty terrible on paper.

Cain has won San Franciso's fifth starting job, Chris Haft of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cain was awful this spring, posting a 7.82 ERA and 1.66 WHIP over 25.1 innings. Ty Blach, however, wasn't able to do enough to steal the job from the 32-year-old Cain. The Giants will give the veteran a chance to rediscover the magic of his early career, but Cain hasn't posted an ERA below 4.00 since 2012. Blach will make the team as a reliever and could take Cain's job if Cain struggles out of the gate once again.

Despite an 8.10 ERA Cactus League ERA, Cain remains the favorite to win the Giants' fifth starter spot, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cain was hit hard again Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four in his five innings of work. The veteran's pitch count of 70 is another indicator that the club views him as their fifth starter. Declining performance and an inability to stay healthy have caused the former All-Star to become an afterthought in fantasy circles over the past few years. In fact, he hasn't posted an ERA below four since 2012. We would have to see some sort of consistent success from Cain in the regular season before recommending him as a fantasy option in most formats.

Cain pitched 3.1 innings while giving up two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out two in Monday's spring training win over the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Cain's outing was the longest of any San Francisco starter to date this spring. Despite his impressive career resume, Cain is going to have to earn his spot on the roster. While he is considered the favorite to land the fifth starter job, he will have to lower his 7.36 ERA to instill confidence in the Giants that they can rely on him over younger, less-proven options.
