Cain (3-3) gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk over seven innings in Friday's 2-0 loss to the Braves. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander had the misfortune of going up against an uncharacteristically brilliant Jaime Garcia, who helped ensure that Cain received no run support on the night. Cain was impressive in his own right, throwing 64 of 92 pitches for strikes in what was a performance reminiscent of his younger days. The 32-year-old has actually put together some strong starts this season, but they've been interspersed with a pair of rocky outings where he's given up nine and seven earned runs, respectively. Friday marked his fourth quality start of the season, and seventh where he's given up two earned runs or less. He'll look to get above .500 when he takes on a tough Nationals lineup at home next Wednesday.
