Shields allowed two runs on four hits while striking out five over five innings in a rehabilitation start for Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Shields ran his pitch count up to 72, 18 more than he threw in his first rehab start. The White Sox will have to assess the outing and determine the right-hander's next step but he's at a level where he could throw 90-95 his next time out, which could be in the majors.

Shields (shoulder) will make his second rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
The start would put Shields on line to make a return to the rotation next week against the Orioles, if the team does indeed decide on that course of action. The veteran right-hander looked impressive in his first rehab outing since suffering a setback in early May, as he allowed one earned run over four efficient innings and struck out three. Thursday's start will serve as a firm indication as to his readiness for a return.

Shields (shoulder) commanded his fastball to both sides of the plate and mixed in some curveballs and changeups during his rehabilitation start Saturday, according to White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cooper said Shields "killed the conditioning program" while he was hurt, so when the right-hander first started throwing off a mound, he was a reasonable facsimile of where he was prior to the injury. He tossed four innings and 54 pitches in Saturday's start and will look to build on that this week. Theoretically, Shields could make one more rehab start before moving back into the White Sox rotation, which desperately needs some quality starts.

Shields (shoulder) allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits without a walk while striking out three over four innings in a rehabilitation start for Triple-A Charlotte Saturday. He threw 54 pitches, 35 for strikes.
EDGE Analysis
Shields, who's made no fewer than 31 starts over his previous 10 seasons, finds himself in uncharted territory in 2017, having spent seven weeks on the disabled list. The White Sox haven't indicated a schedule for Shields to remain on rehab assignment, but given no setbacks and a normal increase of pitches and innings, we expect to see the right-hander back in Chicago by mid June.

Shields (shoulder) will embark on a rehab assignment Saturday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Merkin relayed what pitching coach Don Cooper told the TV broadcast Tuesday. It is unclear what level Shields will begin his rehab assignment at, or how many rehab starts he will require before rejoining the big-league rotation. He threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Friday and threw a simulated game Monday. Shields posted a 1.62 ERA, 5.25 FIP, 1.14 WHIP and 16:10 K:BB in 16.2 innings prior to suffering the injury.

Shields (shoulder) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Friday and is set for simulated game Monday, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After suffering a setback earlier this month, it appears Shields is well on his way to returning to regular action, but he'll likely need one or two rehab starts to build up his arm strength before resuming a rotation spot. The right-hander compiled an atrocious 6.77 ERA over 22 starts with the White Sox last season, yet allowed just three earned runs over 16.2 innings in his first three starts this year prior to landing on the DL.

Shields' (shoulder) bullpen session went well Wednesday and he'll throw another one Friday, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shields is very happy with how he's progressed through his rehab as of late, and it seems like he's nearing a return to facing hitters. It's unclear when this next step will take place, but more should become clear following Friday's outing.

Shields (shoulder) will throw off a mound Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
This will be Shields' first mound work since being placed on the disabled list April 16. The White Sox will be greatly interested in how Shields responds to the session as it comes one day after Dylan Covey left his start with an oblique injury.

Shields (shoulder) played catch Monday and will begin a throwing program Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Shields hadn't thrown since April 16 when he was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right latissimus dorsi muscle.

Shields (shoulder) will resume a throwing program Monday, Toni Ginnetti of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shields has been sidelined since late April with the strained right lat muscle, and though he initially expected to return from the disabled list in the 10-day minimum or close to it, those plans were shelved after he suffered a setback earlier this month. After taking the past two weeks off to rest up, Shields said his lat has responded nicely, so he'll attempt to work his way back into action. Shields may need a week or longer to build up his arm strength and head out on a rehab assignment before the White Sox activate him and return him to the rotation.
