Shields (3-6) earned the win Saturday, throwing seven innings and giving up just one run on two hits and two walks. He struck out five as the White Sox won 13-1.
EDGE Analysis
Shields' offense backed him with six home runs, and perhaps some are surprised that he only gave up one in this affair. Shields has posted four quality starts in his last seven efforts, but this was a near cupcake matchup, which any mixed fantasy player wanting to speculate should remember. The right-handed veteran next lines up for a road start against the Tigers Thursday.

Shields (knee) is the starter for Saturday's game against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Shields left Monday's outing after being hit in the knee by a line drive, but won't miss any time and is good to go for Saturday's contest after receiving clean results from a post-game X-ray. Over the course of the 2017 season, the right-hander has posted a 5.72 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 91.1 innings.

Shields (knee) said he felt good Tuesday and expects to make his next scheduled start, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shields exited Monday's game with a trainer after being struck in the knee by a line drive, but it doesn't appear the ailment will force him to miss a turn in the rotation. X-rays came back clean, and he checked out after Tuesday's workout, clearing the way for him to stay on schedule. His next start is lined up for Saturday against the Giants.

Shields was removed from Monday's game against the Indians with a right knee contusion, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shields limped off the field with a trainer after being drilled by a comebacker in the seventh inning Monday. The good news is initial X-rays came back negative, so he may not be forced to miss his next turn in the rotation. Consider him day-to-day for now; his status will likely become clearer as he does some work in between starts.

Shields (2-5) took the loss Tuesday in Minnesota after allowing four runs on five hits with five walks and three strikeouts over five innings.
EDGE Analysis
Control was a major issue for the 35-year-old veteran, who threw only 47 of 93 pitches for strikes while tying his season-high in free passes. He still hasn't pitched more than six innings in a game this season and sports a problematic 73:42 K:BB to go with a 5.72 ERA in 85 innings. You can probably do better Sunday even with the strikeout-prone Rays next on tap for Shields.

Shields gave up three runs on three hits and two walks over six innings Wednesday while striking out six but came away with a no-decision in a 4-3 win over the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran was on the hook for his fifth loss of the year before the White Sox scored a run in the eighth inning to tie things up, setting the stage for some walk-off heroics by Tim Anderson. Shields has actually shown some modest improvement lately, providing quality starts in three of his last four trips to the mound with a 4.24 ERA and 26:7 K:BB in 23.1 innings over that stretch, but his inability to keep the ball in the park -- he has a 1.9 HR/9 in those four starts, which is actually down from his 2.3 mark on the season -- makes him an extremely risky fantasy play. He'll clash with the Twins again Tuesday, this time in Minnesota.

Shields gave up two runs on five hits and three walks over 5.1 innings Friday but had to settle for a no-decision in a 4-3 win over the Rangers. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander left the game in line for his first win since late June, but Gregory Infante coughed up the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Shields has a brutal 7.02 ERA and 1.68 WHIP in eight starts since that last victory, and while his 38:18 K:BB in 42.1 innings over that stretch is respectable, his 2.6 HR/9 is not. He'll next take mound Wednesday at home against the Twins.

Shields (2-4) gave up three runs and struck out eight during a no-decision in Saturday's loss to the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
The years of Shields' success with the Royals and the Rays can almost assuredly be put behind him now. Even with Saturday's performance, Shields has a 5.90 ERA this season, on pace to be a career worst for him. At 35-years-old, a resurgence in results shouldn't be expected for the one-time All-Star, as injuries and lack of results have been his story of 2017.

Shields (2-4) allowed four runs, three of which were earned, on five hits and one walk while striking out six across six innings to take the law Saturday against the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Shields gave up a pair of two-run homers over the first two innings before settling down nicely. Unfortunately, the White Sox were unable to provide him much offensive support, leading to his fourth loss of the campaign. With a 6.03 ERA, he's unlikely to find himself in many fantasy lineups. He'll make his next start Friday against the Royals.

Shields allowed six runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six batters through six innings during Monday's win over Toronto. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
With a 6.19 ERA and 1.66 WHIP for the campaign, Shields is off the fantasy radar in the majority of settings. His 7.0 K/9 appears serviceable on the surface, but with just 44 punchouts through 11 starts, he isn't moving the needle in the strikeouts column, either. The veteran projects to face the Red Sox at Fenway Park in his next start.
