Shields (shoulder) had begun a throwing program but has been shut down, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. "He's been throwing every other day, and we're going to kind of shut that down a little bit and let that calm down,'' manager Rick Renteria said.
EDGE Analysis
With the 35-year-old's shoulder not responding has hoped, Shields faces a longer term stay on the disabled list. Shields' bad news is good news for the Mike Pelfrey fantasy owners out there as he will continue to fill in for Shields for now.

Shields (shoulder) has resumed playing catch, but isn't expected to come off the 10-day disabled list in the near future, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports. "I couldn't give you a timetable [for Shields], but I know he's getting better," manager Rick Renteria said Monday. "We'll make a determination on that as he continues to improve."
EDGE Analysis
After a dreadful 2016 campaign, Shields was off to a nice start to the new season through three starts, surrendering three runs in 16.2 innings before the shoulder injury surfaced. The White Sox likely won't have a better feel for the health of Shields, who is on the disabled list for the first time in his career, until he starts throwing bullpen sessions.

Shields (shoulder) made 40 tosses during a throwing session Saturday and said he "felt good," Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
This was the first time Shields had thrown since he was placed on the disabled list April 18. The next step for the right-hander will be a bullpen session and possibly a rehab start.

Shields (shoulder) is "very encouraged" about how his lat is feeling and hopes to begin throwing over the weekend, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Everything seems to be going in the right direction following his placement on the disabled list on April 21, which bodes well for the veteran right-hander. As long as everything goes well when he resumes throwing, there is a chance that Shields returns from the DL after the minimum 10 days.

Shields said his shoulder injury is something he normally would try to fight through but didn't want the injury to impact the team, JJ Stankevitz of CSN Chicago reports.
EDGE Analysis
Shields' cavalier attitude about the injury suggests he'll spend the minimum 10 days on the disabled list. The right-hander said he felt a strain during his start last Sunday and pitched through it to deliver six innings. The decision to place him on the DL makes perfect sense. Given his situation with the White Sox in 2017 -- a veteran starter in the final year of a contract pitching for a rebuilding team -- both the organization and the pitcher want him healthy for an eventual trade. The White Sox can get a better haul from a healthy Shields while he gets to pitch important games in a pennant race.

Shields was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday with a strained lat.
EDGE Analysis
Shields had been pitching excellently to open the season, with 16 strikeouts and just three earned runs allowed through 16.2 innings. His disabled list stint is backdated to April 18, so he may miss only one start should the injury prove to be minor. A corresponding roster move will be announced prior to Saturday's game.

Shields allowed one run on five hits and three walks while striking out five over six innings in Sunday's 3-1 extra-inning win over the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
This was the third straight start with just one earned run allowed for Shields, who has allowed just nine base hits over 16.2 innings in 2017. Opposing batters are hitting just .153 and he's yet to allow more than one run in any of his starts. But potential problems. The right-hander has walked 10 batters over his three starts and allowed a home run each. It's only a matter of time before those homers plate runners Shields has walked.

Shields allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out six over 5.1 innings in Tuesday's 2-1 extra-inning loss to the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
For the second straight start, Shields ran into early trouble -- Francisco Lindor took him deep in the first inning -- and he was able to overcome that trouble for a second straight start. The right-hander retired 12 consecutive batters at one point and kept his team in the game. Unfortunately, the White Sox were unable to generate much in the way of scoring opportunities, something that's dogged the offense this season. Shields is next scheduled to pitch Saturday in Minnesota.

Shields allowed one run on two hits and five walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings in Thursday's 11-2 win over the Tigers, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.
EDGE Analysis
The White Sox made it easy for Shields, putting nine runs on the board by the end of the fourth inning, but he was challenged by wildness and needed to pitch around the five walks, none of which came around to score. He got better the deeper into the game he got and didn't cede much hard contact over 104 pitches (58 strikes). It was an encouraging start for the 34-year-old right-hander, who starts 2017 with a clean slate after a disastrous 2016 season.

Shields will make his season debut Thursday against the Tigers after Wednesday's game was postponed.
EDGE Analysis
Mother nature has wreaked havoc on the Tigers-White Sox series this week, forcing the postponement of two scheduled contests. Shields will simply have to wait another day to begin his 12th season in the big leagues, when he matches up against Matt Boyd in the series finale.
