Shields (shoulder) commanded his fastball to both sides of the plate and mixed in some curveballs and changeups during his rehabilitation start Saturday, according to White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cooper said Shields "killed the conditioning program" while he was hurt, so when the right-hander first started throwing off a mound, he was a reasonable facsimile of where he was prior to the injury. He tossed four innings and 54 pitches in Saturday's start and will look to build on that this week. Theoretically, Shields could make one more rehab start before moving back into the White Sox rotation, which desperately needs some quality starts.
