Lincecum will report to the Giants' facility in Arizona on Wednesday to begin rehabbing his surgically-repaired hip, John Dickinson of 95.7 The Game reports. He's expected to require five-to-six months of recovery time.
EDGE Analysis
Despite his standing as a two-time Cy Young winner, Lincecum is expected to see limited interest in free agency this winter on the heels of a four-year slide in his production. The 31-year-old could still have a second life as a reliever in the big leagues, but with the hip procedure likely keeping him out for all of spring training, he remains a risky investment for any team.

Lincecum was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Lincecum was already ruled out for the season, so the move to the 60-day disabled list was more procedural than anything, opening up a spot on the 40-man roster for Brett Bochy.

Giants' general manager, Bobby Evans, announced that Lincecum (hip) will miss the remainder of the season, CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lincecum went to see a hip specialist in Colorado who recommended surgery for his ailing hip. Initially it seemed like the Giants placed Lincecum on the disabled list in order to give him a break from the rotation instead of sending him to the minors. Whether or not that is true, Lincecum ended up developing a degenerative hip issue and will miss the rest of the season.

Lincecum (hip) visited with a hip specialist in Colorado on Wednesday and they will determine the pitcher's next course of action Thursday, Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lincecum has battled through a number of injuries throughout the season and it remains to be seen if he'll rejoin the roster again this season. Thursday's plan with Dr. Marc Philippon should shed some light on Lincecum's prognosis for the rest of the year, but even if he does make it back to the mound, it'll be in a low-leverage bullpen role in all likelihood.

Linecum (forearm) has encountered a setback in his recovery from hip and back discomfort, leading him to acknowledge the possibility that he may not pitch again this season, the San Jose Mercury News reports. "I really don't know. I mean, I hope not," said Lincecum. "I can't predict the future. I have good days and bad days. The bad days are outshining the good ones."
EDGE Analysis
Originally placed on the disabled list with a forearm contusion, Lincecum is now bothered by both his hip and back, leaving him unable to throw for the past week. Even if he makes a late-season return, he'll likely be limited to a role in the bullpen. Lincecum will be a free agent after the season.

Lincecum (forearm), along with pitcher Tim Hudson (shoulder), is expected to be activated Sep. 1 or earlier, Andrew Baggarly of the Bay Area News Group reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lincecum or Hudson could be available to pitch as early as Sunday, but manager Bruce Bochy did not provide concrete information regarding who the most likely candidate is.

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Tim Linceum threw from 60 feet up to 115 feet in left field Saturday, and he also threw some pitches from 45 feet off flat ground as he continues to recover from a forearm injury, according to MLB.com. Lincecum has received two cortisone shots for hip issues, and he continues to experience soreness during his rehab for the forearm injury.

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Tim Lincecum, who last pitched June 27 because of a forearm strain, played catch on flat ground Saturday, according to CSN Bay Area. Lincecum, who also is suffering from degernaritive problems in his hips, is expected to throw from flat ground for a few more days before throwing off of a mound.

Lincecum (forearm) threw three simulated innings on the bullpen mound Friday, CSN Bay Area reports. Manager Bruce Bochy said Lincecum still "needs a little work" and that he was "a touch behind" Tim Hudson (shoulder), who also tossed three simulated frames. It's still a step in the right direction for Lincecum, though the team does not have any immediate plans to send him for a rehab assignment and it doesn't have any incentive to rush him back with both Matt Cain and Jake Peavy pitching well.

Lincecum (forearm) played catch Monday, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports. Though it resulted in his placement on the DL last week, Lincecum's forearm contusion isn't expected to sideline him much further beyond the 15-day minimum. Even so, it seems unlikely at this point that Lincecum will have a rotation spot awaiting him in the second half, as the Giants have since bolstered their rotation with the additions of Matt Cain and Jake Peavy from the DL. After a decent start to the season, Lincecum fizzled out before being sidelined by the injury, and now sports a 4.13 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over 76.1 innings.
