Taylor Teagarden will be sidelined for the next few days due to back spasms. It doesn't sound like a big issue, but it's worth noting that Teagarden missed a good chunk of 2012 with a lower back problem. He's expected to back up Matt Wieters this season.

Orioles and C Taylor Teagarden avoided arbitration by agreeing to a contract. Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed. Teagarden appeared in 22 games for the O's in 2012, driving home nine runs in only 64 plate appearances. He should be the primary backup to Matt Wieters in 2013.

Taylor Teagarden drove in the go-ahead run in the Orioles' defeat of the Marlins early Wednesday morning. The game went 18 innings and took close to six total hours. Teagarden's RBI single in the top of the 18th was the first run scored in nine frames and mercifully went unanswered by Seattle in the bottom half. The Orioles' backup catcher has eight RBI in 19 games this season.

The unlikeliest of heroes, Teagarden had hit just .250 with no homers and three RBI over 24 minor league at-bats on the year. He'll serve as the Orioles primary backup catcher behind Matt Wieters.

Orioles activated C Taylor Teagarden from the 60-day disabled list. Ronny Paulino was optioned in a corresponding move, while Dana Eveland was DFA'd to offset the 40-man roster. Teagarden has been out all season with a lower back injury and will immediatly take over as the backup to Matt Wieters. The Orioles also purchased the contract of Miguel Socolovich.

Teagarden is 3-for-15 (.200) over six rehab games between the GCL Orioles and Double-A Bowie. He suffered a bruised right hand on Sunday, but is slated to play with Low-A Delmarva on Wednesday. Barring any setbacks over the next two days, the O's will likely activate him on Friday. Ronny Paulino, who has served as the backup catcher this season, will soon be the odd-man out.

Once he's deemed ready to return, Ronny Paulino will likely be booted off the active roster.
