Taylor Teagarden is scheduled to have a CT scan on his back on Tuesday. Teagarden has already had X-rays and an MRI. He was projected to serve as Baltimore's backup catcher this season, but there's a chance he might not be ready for Opening Day. Taylor Teagarden is being examined by a back specialist Tuesday in St. Petersburg, Florida. Teagarden also had an MRI earlier in the day. He's been feeling stiffness for close to a week and the Orioles want to be sure that it's not going to be a lingering problem. The 28-year-old is expected to serve as the O's backup catcher this year.

Taylor Teagarden (knee) is expected to be sidelined another 4-5 days with lower-back stiffness. An MRI revealed no serious damage. Teagarden ''tweaked'' his lower-back in the weight room. Barring a setback, the 28-year-old should open the season as Baltimore's backup catcher.

Taylor Teagarden (knee) told reporters Tuesday in Orioles camp that he's at around 85 percent health. Teagarden had two minor knee surgeries this offseason. As long as he can avoid setbacks, the 28-year-old should open the season on time as Baltimore's backup catcher.

Orioles acquired C Taylor Teagarden from the Rangers for RHP Randy Henry and a player to be named later. Teagarden, who turns 28 later this month, has a .220/.286/.417 batting line over 392 plate appearances in the big leagues. While he wasn't really in the Rangers' plans anymore, he should do just fine as a backup to All-Star catcher Matt Wieters.

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have had talks with the Rangers about a trade for catcher Taylor Teagarden. It makes sense, as he is out of options and O's manager Buck Showalter was with Texas when Teagarden was drafted. It would likely only take a minor leaguer or two to get a deal done. Teagarden, who turns 28 later this month, batted .235 (8-for-34) with two doubles and two RBI at the major league level this season. The O's view him as a backup for Matt Wieters.
