Major League Baseball suspended Skip Schumaker for two games for his role in Tuesday's brawl with the Diamondbacks.
Schumaker seemed to be trying to play peacemaker in the fight, but MLB evidently didn't see it that way. He's likely to appeal the suspension.

Skip Schumaker owns a weak .146/.293/.167 batting line in 58 plate appearances this season with the Dodgers.
Schumaker has just one extra-base hit. He was acquired this winter from the Cardinals in exchange for infield prospect Jake Lemmerman, who is starting at shortstop and doing pretty well at the plate with Double-A Springfield.

Dodgers acquired UTIL Skip Schumaker from the Cardinals for INF Jake Lemmerman.
Schumaker's playing time in St. Louis tailed off near the end of the 2012 season and he wasn't going to get more use in 2013, so the Cardinals found a better spot for him. He'll share time at second base out in Los Angeles with Mark Ellis while also serving as depth at all three outfield spots. Schumaker is a .305/.359/.403 carer hitter against right-handed pitching.

Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports the the Dodgers have acquired Skip Schumaker from the Cardinals.
There's no word yet on what the Cards are getting in return. Schumaker will be used as a backup at second base and in the outfield and will be reunited with former hitting coach Mark McGwire. The 32-year-old is a career .305/.359/.403 hitter against right-handed pitching, so he's not a bad guy to have on the bench, and he's slated to make just $1.5 million in 2013.

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Twins and Reds have expressed interest in Skip Schumaker.
Schumaker could compete for playing time at second base and in center field for the Twins, and he would offer the Reds some protection for the talented but streaky Drew Stubbs in center. The Dodgers also reportedly have interest in the veteran utility player.

Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com hears that the Dodgers are interested in Skip Schumaker.
The Cardinals are looking to deal Schumaker after his role was diminished down the stretch in 2012. He's slated to make just $1.5 million in 2013 and is a career .305/.359/.403 hitter against right-handed pitching, so the 32-year-old could still be a useful bench piece.

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Cardinals are open to trading Skip Schumaker this offseason
Schumaker is no longer needed with Daniel Descalso as the everyday second baseman and top prospect Kolten Wong on the way. The 32-year-old utilityman will be an obvious candidate to be shopped in the final season of a two-year, $3 million extension.

Skip Schumaker is not being viewed as an option at second base for the Cardinals next season.
"It's hard to imagine him getting a chance a ton of playing time there with what we know we have," GM John Mozeliak said Thursday. Daniel Descalso became the Cardinals' starter at second base down the stretch this summer and top infield prospect Kolten Wong is on the way. Matt Carpenter could also be an option if he makes progress defensively this winter.
