Roy Halladay picked up the win over the Yankees on Friday after allowing one run and striking out three in 2 1/3 innings. Just like his first time out, Halladay was working at 88-91 mph today. That's not ideal as far as his chances of reemerging as an elite pitcher, but even if he doesn't improve from there, he's skilled enough to be quite an asset to both the Phillies and fantasy teams.

Roy Halladay allowed one run and struck out two in two innings versus the Tigers on Sunday. A Victor Martinez homer was the only hit. Halladay was pleased with the outing: "It feels a lot free and easier right now than it did at the end of last season. I feel like arm-wise it's less effort." According to CSNPhilly's Jim Salisbury, Halladay mostly worked at 88-91 mph today.

Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee indicated Tuesday that team will likely go with either Cole Hamels or Cliff Lee on Opening Day. Halladay has made 10 straight Opening Day starts, but that streak could come to an end this year, as the club would prefer to split Hamels and Lee up in the rotation. "I think it's how we line up best," said Dubee. "Realistically, we could pitch anybody the first day as far as Doc, Cole and Cliff. On most staffs, they are No. 1 starters, so they all could pitch opening day. But part of what we're thinking is trying to split those two lefties. Last year we started with two lefties (after Halladay) and I'd just like to split them up."

Roy Halladay blamed a previously undisclosed back injury for his eventual shoulder issues last year. Halladay "totally changed his training program" as a result, so hopefully the shoulder issues are a thing of the past. Still, with all the innings he has racked up over the years, there is risk involved in banking on a bounce back season.

Roy Halladay threw 30 pitches off a mound Tuesday as he ramped up his offseason throwing program. The session, which was overseen by pitching coach Rich Dubee, went well. Hallad missed ample time last season due to shoulder issues, but the ailment hasn't held him back at all over the winter. He holds big bounce-back potential in 2013 if he can avoid the disabled list.

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports that the Phillies have "batted around the idea" of an extension for Roy Halladay. It's odd timing, given that Halladay is coming off a down year where he dealt with shoulder problems. General manager Ruben Amaro said they've "kicked it around, but we tabled it," though he wouldn't rule out resuming talks eventually. "I guess it's still possible," said Amaro. "But a lot has to do with how he feels and how he performs. So that's a decision and a conversation that would probably have to go into the spring, and maybe into the season."

Roy Halladay struggled in a victory over the Marlins on Saturday, surrendering four runs on six hits over five innings of work. Halladay racked up seven strikeouts in the game while issuing three walks. Most of the damage against him was done by Giancarlo Stanton who lined a two-run single to center in the first, and added a mammoth solo homer in the third inning. He finishes one of the most disappointing seasons of his career with an 11-9 record, 4.49 ERA and 132/36 K/BB ratio over 156 1/3 innings.

Roy Halladay (shoulder) has been cleared to make his scheduled Saturday start against the Marlins. Halladay made it through a bullpen session on Wednesday without feeling any lingering discomfort in his throwing shoulder. The right-hander was hammered for seven runs in just 1 2/3 innings against the Braves last time out and is a risky play this weekend vs. the Fish.

Roy Halladay (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Wednesday. Halladay was knocked around for seven runs over just 1 2/3 innings Saturday against the Braves and is currently dealing with some tightness in his upper shoulder and shoulder blade, but the Phillies don't intend to shut him down for the season. Assuming his bullpen session goes off without a hitch, he will likely make his final start Saturday against the Marlins.

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. said Monday that he doesn't see surgery as an option for Roy Halladay (shoulder) this offseason. "Nope, not right now," said Amaro. "We don't have any structural damage; there is no surgery that can help him. It's just tightness in his upper shoulder and shoulder blade, nothing like symptoms when he was [placed on the DL]. Right now, we don't see any issue, as far as any procedure is necessary." Halladay was knocked around for seven runs in just 1 2/3 innings Saturday against the Braves, but is still expected to finish the season in the rotation. The 35-year-old right-hander is owed $20 million next season while his contract includes a $20 million option for 2014.
