A second opinion on Roy Halladay's injured right shoulder has confirmed the original diagnosis of a strained latissimus dorsi muscle. Doc will be allowed to resume throwing in three weeks, and will be out at least an additional 2-4 weeks after that, so, in all likelihood, we won't see him again until after the All-Star break. Phillies GM Ruben Amaro recently noted that Halladay was "symptom free" while going through shoulder exercises, but that's hardly a major indicator of how he is physically. As far as his contract status goes, Halladay mentioned that he'd like to finish his career in Philly even though his vesting option for 2014 is now unlikely to vest.

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. said Tuesday that a second opinion on Roy Halladay's right shoulder confirmed the original diagnosis of a strained latissimus dorsi muscle. In other words, the original six-to-eight week timetable remains intact. Amaro claimed that Halladay was "symptom free" Tuesday morning when he completed shoulder exercises, but we should know a lot more on his status after he attempts to throw in two weeks.

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. reiterated that he feels the 6-8 week timetable for Roy Halladay (lat) is realistic. Amaro added that a recent CAT scan showed "no alarming issues," and that Halladay would be shut down for a ''minimum of three weeks.'' The Phillies are currently awaiting a second opinion from Dr. David Altchek in New York to complete the diagnosis. Halladay was tentatively diagnosed with a strained right lat muscle by team physician Dr. Michael Ciccotti on Tuesday.

Roy Halladay got a second opinion on his strained right lat muscle from Dr. Altchek in New York on Wednesday. Halladay was diagnosed with a strained right lat muscle Tuesday and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, but there's a chance Altchek saw something different. The Phillies' ace will address his status Friday following more meetings with team doctors.

Phillies placed RHP Roy Halladay on the 15-day disabled list with a strained lat muscle. Halladay is expected to miss 6-8 weeks. It's a brutal blow to a Phillies team that is already coping with multiple injured stars, and it should make things all the more interesting at the top of the National League East. Halladay had gone six straight seasons with 200 innings or more. That will be snapped this year.

Roy Halladay (shoulder) was in Philadelphia on Tuesday to see the Phillies' team doctor. Halladay left Sunday's start after two innings with right shoulder soreness. The Phillies have yet to say whether he'll be able to make his next start or if he'll require a stint on the disabled list. Tuesday's evaluation should provide some clarity on the situation.

According to CSNPhilly.com, Roy Halladay's sore shoulder ''isn't a new issue.'' "Yeah, it's been an issue," pitching coach Rich Dubee said. "It's been there. It's been lingering. Some days it's better than others." Halladay is not currently scheduled for an MRI, but will be re-evaluated next week. He allowed two singles, a walk and a grand slam to Yadier Molina on Sunday before exiting.

Updating an earlier item, Roy Halladay left Sunday's start after two innings due to right shoulder soreness. The Phillies are saying it's precautionary, but we have to take any shoulder injury seriously, especially when it involves one of the best pitchers in the game. He'll be re-evaluated in a couple days, and no MRI is currently planned. Halladay gave up a grand slam in the game before exiting and allowed five runs in his previous start, so it's possible the injury didn't just occur Sunday. Vance Worley (elbow) could be ready for activation from the DL in time to take Halladay's rotation spot if a move needs to be made.

Roy Halladay struggled against the Nationals on Tuesday, giving up five runs on nine hits in his six innings of work. Halladay struck out six and walked one in the game. Ian Desmond and Rick Ankiel each took him deep for solo shots as part of the damage in the rough outing. With the loss, he now falls to 4-3, and his ERA drops to a mere-mortal 3.58. Perhaps he's starting to show his age a bit, but he definitely hasn't looked like the Halladay of old to this point in the season. He'll look to get back on track when he takes on the Cardinals in St. Louis on Sunday.

Roy Halladay (personal) is expected to return Friday. Halladay was excused from the Phillies following his Wednesday night start to attend to a private family matter. But he won't be gone for more than 48 hours. The 34-year-old right-hander has registered a 3.40 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 29/10 K/BB ratio across 42 1/3 innings this season. He's scheduled to take on the Mets on Monday.
