Wright (shoulder) won't hit in upcoming Grapefruit League games, although he has been cleared to do so, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It was recently reported that Wright was diagnosed with a shoulder impingement. Doctors have given him permission to hit in live games, but he has no intentions of doing so. Instead, the veteran will take his time and progress in his rehab for the time being.

Wright (shoulder, back) said there was no structural damage in his shoulder, Mat Ehalt of The Record reports. He has no timetable for his return and wouldn't confirm if he might play on Opening Day, but he believes once his shoulder heals, he'll be ready for full baseball action.
EDGE Analysis
Despite that optimism, fantasy players shouldn't bank on anything close to a full season by the 34-year-old. Watch how much he plays, if at all, during spring training games. Wright still hasn't thrown a baseball since last summer, so he'll need to prove he can do that before he can regain trust.

Wright said the second opinion he sought upheld the initial diagnosis of a shoulder impingement, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wright is slated to return to camp sometime in the next week, but what he'll actually do remains up in the air -- along with his timetable to start the season and, perhaps, his career, given his ongoing spinal stenosis. New York will not push its 34-year-old captain to start the season on time if he's behind, which may position Jose Reyes as the Opening Day third baseman. Any fantasy player expecting immediate contributions from Wright must temper expectations.

Wright (shoulder) remained in New York on Wednesday to receive a second opinion on his ailing shoulder, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
General manager Sandy Alderson already expressed some concern in The Captain's ability to be ready for Opening Day, and a second opinion certainly doesn't instill confidence in those hoping for a clean bill of health. The plan is still to have Wright return to camp later this week, but it's unclear as to how much activity he'll actually be able to take part in. As things stand now, things don't look great, but a full diagnosis should be available relatively soon.

Wright has returned to New York to meet with team doctors regarding the impingement in his right shoulder, The New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
He isn't expected to be away from training camp for long, but Wright's status for Opening Day is looking increasingly questionable as he is still unable to throw a baseball. Until he shows he can handle his defensive chores, there's no reason to consider the 34-year-old for your fantasy roster, even as a late-round dart or reserve stash.

Mets GM Sandy Alderson said Tuesday that Wright is dealing with a right shoulder impingement and is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wright isn't dealing with structural damage to his shoulder and won't require surgery, but the impingement will prevent him from taking part in a throwing program. While he would still be able to serve as a DH in Grapefruit League games, Wright's inability to play third base would obviously become problematic once the regular season arrives, so it appears the Mets will shut him down for the time being and let him recover. If Wright is forced to open the season on the disabled list, Jose Reyes or Wilmer Flores would likely profile as the leading candidates to serve as the everyday options at third base.

Wright hit fourth as the DH in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals, going 0-for-2.
EDGE Analysis
He didn't look too rusty at the plate, flying out to center in his first at-bat before stinging a line drive into the third baseman's glove in his final trip. Wright is still a couple of weeks away from throwing in a game situation as he continues his recovery from neck surgery, but if all goes well on that front, he seems on track to suit up as the Mets' Opening Day third baseman.

Wright (neck) had another throwing session Thursday, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wright also threw Tuesday, and his Thursday workout happened behind closed doors. The veteran has to show he's capable of more physical activity -- progressively ramping up work in the field and at the plate -- before fantasy players can feel comfortable using him early in the season.

Wright played catch Tuesday, just the second time he's thrown a baseball since neck surgery last June, The New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Mets are keeping Wright's throwing sessions out of the public eye for now, and manager Terry Collins' comments afterwards suggested that Wright's efforts are less than impressive at the moment. "We want to make sure when he starts out there throwing in front of everybody that he's ready to let loose," Collins said. Wright will DH during Grapefruit League games to begin the spring as well as get at-bats during minor league games, and Collins suggested it could be a few weeks before the Mets consider using Wright in the field.

Wright (neck) participated in a throwing session for the first time since his June neck surgery, Kristie Ackert of the NY Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The throwing session marks another significant milestone in Wright's recovery from his June 2016 neck surgery. The veteran third baseman began taking batting practice last week, as well. Though his rehab is progressing, his overall health entering the 2017 season still remains in question.
