Mets GM Sandy Alderson said Tuesday that Wright is dealing with a right shoulder impingement and is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wright isn't dealing with structural damage to his shoulder and won't require surgery, but the impingement will prevent him from taking part in a throwing program. While he would still be able to serve as a DH in Grapefruit League games, Wright's inability to play third base would obviously become problematic once the regular season arrives, so it appears the Mets will shut him down for the time being and let him recover. If Wright is forced to open the season on the disabled list, Jose Reyes or Wilmer Flores would likely profile as the leading candidates to serve as the everyday options at third base.
