Gillaspie was called up from Triple-A on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
In corresponding moves the Giants optioned outfielder Mac Williamson and moved infielder Ehire Adrianza to the 60-day DL. With Adrianza missing extended time due to injury, the Giants needed to boost their infield depth, hence the addition of Gillaspie. The 28-year-old was hitting .314 with one home run and four RBI in 12 games at Triple-A this season.

Gillaspie has signed a minor league contract with the Giants, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
EDGE Analysis
After a poor offensive 2015 campaign spent with the White Sox and the Angels, Gillaspie was DFA'd by the Angels and entered free agency in the offseason. It's possible the utility infielder will receive an invitation to big league spring training, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he ends up in the minors to begin the 2016 season.

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Conor Gillaspie was designated for assignment Tuesday. Gillaspie hit just .203 in 64 at-bats since being acquired from the Chicago White Sox, and he will be replaced on the roster by Kaleb Cowart, who was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Chicago White Sox third baseman Conor Gillaspie was traded to the Los Angeles Angels on Friday, according to MLB.com. Gillaspie had been designated for assignment Sunday but could see regular playing time for as long as third baseman David Freese is on the disabled list due to a hand injury.

Chicago White Sox third baseman Conor Gillaspie was designated for assignment Sunday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Tyler Saladino has been starting at third base since he was called up on July 10, making Gillaspie expendable on the major league roster.

Manager Robin Ventura said he will continue to mix and match Gillaspie and Gordon Beckham at third base depending on the matchup, the Chicago Tribune reports. Gillaspie has apparently fallen behind Gordon Beckham on the depth chart, as the former has only made there starts at third base in June. Gillaspie started the year as the starter, but Beckham has apparently overwhelmed him with his superior defense. For now, Gillaspie should be treated as a reserve corner infielder with little-to-no pop.

Gillaspie is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros, the Daryl Can Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Gordon Beckham has been getting most of the playing time at third base, even against right-handed pitchers. With the White Sox facing left-handed Dallas Keuchel on Tuesday, it would've been a major surprise to see Gillaspie in the lineup.

Gillaspie isn't in Wednesday's lineup against the Rangers, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Gillaspie will yield the start to Gordon Beckham at third, as the two continue to share time. He's collected a hit in each of his last three starts, and sits at .254/.289/.386 with two home runs and 12 RBI through 35 games this season. Beckham will start at third again Wednesday, bating seventh for the White Sox.

Gillaspie will start Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader, CSN Chicago's Dan Hayes reports. This was expected, as the White Sox said they would use Gillaspie in Thursday's doubleheader and he was not in the lineup for the first game. After getting some time off with the team playing the last three games on artificial turf in Toronto, Gillaspie should be will-rested for the second half of Thursday's doubleheader. Look for him and Gordon Beckham to continue a fairly even split of playing time at third base going forward.

Gillaspie remains out of the lineup for Game 1 of Chicago's doubleheader Thursday, the Chicago Tribune's Paul Sullivan reports. The White Sox said Gillaspie would return for Thursday's doubleheader, but that probably only meant he would play in one of the two games. He sat out the series in Toronto because the team had concerns about Gillaspie playing on artificial turf because of his issues with plantar fasciitis earlier this season. Gordon Beckham will start at third base for the first game of the twin bill and hit seventh.
