Gillaspie is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins. Gillaspie has made five straight starts at the hot corner for manager Robin Ventura, but will get a day off in favor of Gordon Beckham. The regular third baseman does have a hit in three straight games, but is slashing just .218/.259/.327 on the year.

Gillaspie is not in the lineup Friday against the Royals. Gillaspie will sit with the left-handed Danny Duffy on the mound. Gordon Beckham will start at third base in his place Friday, but he'll likely rejoin the lineup Saturday.

Gillaspie went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the White Sox's loss to the Royals on Thursday. Gordon Beckham replaced him at third base midway through the game, but not before the 0-fer dropped his cumulative batting average below the .200 mark. Gillaspie is only 8-for-41 with 11 strikeouts to start the year, and he should continue to lose playing time to Beckham unless he can turn things around.

Gillaspie is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports. With the White Sox facing left-handed David Price, it comes as no surprise that Gordon Beckham will get the start at third base. This has been a strict platoon situation thus far, with Beckham starting each of Chicago's three games against southpaws.

Gillaspie is not in the lineup for Friday's game against Tommy Milone and the Twins. Gordon Beckham has gotten the starting nod at third base against lefties thus far, hinting that this could be a strict platoon. Luckily for Gillaspie's owners, the White Sox aren't scheduled to face another southpaw until next Friday's game against David Price and the Tigers.

Gillaspie is out of the lineup Wednesday, the Chicago Sun-Times' Daryl Van Schouwen reports. Gordon Beckham gets the start with lefty Danny Duffy on the mound for the Royals. This could become a regular trend, as Beckham was brought in primarily to play third base and Gillaspie hit below the Mendoza line against southpaws last year.

Gillaspie has been playing through plantar fasciitis all spring, Doug Padilla of ESPN Chicago reports. Gillaspie did not confirm that he has been experiencing any foot pain, but this is still something fantasy owners should monitor. Plantar fasciitis is a condition that causes pain in the bottom of the foot, usually the heel area. The condition was first noticeable when Gillaspie gingerly rounded the bases Mar. 3. He is batting .242/.265/.303 this spring. Gillaspie will regularly play at third base, but will also serve as a backup first baseman this season.

Gillaspie started at first base against the Brewers on Sunday, and he could see action there this seaso, the White Sox's official site reports. There is not a huge need on the depth chart for first basemen with both Adam LaRoche and Jose Abreu on the roster, but there could be some late-game situations in which the team pulls one of those guys for a pinch runner. In that case, Gillaspie might rotate around the infield and be replaced at third by someone like Gordon Beckham. Gillaspie was already primed to receive regular action at third base before this news, and it is unlikely he plays enough first to become eligible at the position until well into the season.

Gilaspie's chances of retaining his third base role for the White Sox increased when the team optioned Matt Davidson to Triple-A on Wednesday. Davidson was supposed to challenge for the starting third base role, but he was not able to get his bat going this spring. Gillaspie has had a similarly unimpressive spring (.292 OBP, one extra-base hit in 23 at-bats), but it was his job to lose.

Gillaspie estimates he added 15-to-20 pounds of muscle during the offseason, ESPN Chicago reports. Gillaspie posted a surprising 113 OPS+ while holding onto the White Sox's starting third base role for the whole season, but he did so with meager power. He only hit seven home runs all year and posted a .134 ISO over his 506 plate appearances. The extra muscle should help put a bit more into his swing, but he also credited his improved batting average last year to his focus on putting the ball in play rather than over the wall. He enters 2015 as the heavy favorite to keep his third base gig, though that will not be guaranteed.
