Gillaspie (shoulder) is listed on the Giants' lineup card for Wednesday's exhibition against Team Puerto Rico and is expected to be available off the bench, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gillaspie isn't included in the starting nine Wednesday with Eduardo Nunez (shoulder), the team's projected regular third baseman, cleared to play the field for the first time all spring, but it looks like Gillaspie may be able to enter the game as a pinch-hitter or defensive replacement. The 29-year-old was scratched from the Giants' lineup Saturday with a sore shoulder of his own, but four days off was all he needed to heal up.

Gillaspie was scratched from Saturday's game due to soreness in his arm, Henry Schulman of San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Although it doesn't appear to be anything serious, the Giants are keeping Gillaspie out as a precaution, and he should be considered day-to-day until the team says otherwise. When he returns, the 29-year-old will look to solidify himself as the backup third baseman.

Giants' general manager Bobby Evans said that Gillaspie has the early edge to win the backup third base job heading into spring training, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Giants signed their 2016 postseason cult hero to a one-year deal this offseason with the plan to have him backup Eduardo Nunez in mind. The fact that he is left-handed gives him an edge over his competition so that manager Bruce Bochy can give him spot starts when a righty is on the mound. Evans noted that Gillaspie will still have to earn the job this spring over other third base options such as the recently-signed Aaron Hill or Korean Baseball Organization All-Star Jae-Gyun Hwang.

Gillaspie agreed to a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Giants on Wednesday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
He signed a minor league contract with the Giants last offseason, returning to the organization that drafted him with the 37th overall pick in 2008. Gillaspie was the hero for San Francisco in the Wild Card Game, but he hit just .262/.307/.440 with six homers and one steal in 101 games during the regular season (205 plate appearances). The 29-year-old will provide depth in the corner infield again in 2017.

Gillaspie will start at third base in Wednesday's Wild Card round matchup with the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Gillaspie will man the hot corner Wednesday night with fellow infielder Eduardo Nunez still sidelined with a sore hamstring. Gillaspie will hit eighth in the Giants' batting order against Mets starter Noah Syndergaard.

Gillaspie got another start in place of Eduardo Nunez (hamstring), going 2-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 7-2 win over the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
With just three games left in the regular season it is looking more and more likely that Nunez will not be returning to the lineup. If that is the case, then Gillaspie would split the remaining starts at third base with the newly-signed Gordon Beckham. With the Giants scheduled to face lefties both Friday and Saturday, Beckham would likely see starts over Gillaspie if Nunez is unable to suit up.

Gillaspie homered and drove in a pair in a 2-for-5 game Tuesday against the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
Gillaspie has been playing sparingly in September and should be expected to yield most of the at-bats the rest of the way at third base to Eduardo Nunez. He has showed solid power this season, with a .423 slugging percentage and six home runs in 193 plate appearances. As the rare left-handed batter at third base, Gillaspie gives the Giants a nifty bench option.

Gillaspie has been moved back into a bench role, ceding his platoon playing time to Eduardo Nunez.
EDGE Analysis
Gillaspie has started just one of the Giants' last seven games and appears to have lost the semi-regular playing time he was receiving back in July. Trade deadline acquisition, Eduardo Nunez, has taken over the everyday responsibilities at third base. Gillaspie has done a respectable job filling in when necessary this season, slashing .260/.299/.411 in 154 plate appearances.

Gillaspie went 1-for-3 with a solo shot in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Gillaspie provided the lone run and one of just four hits for the Giants on the day. He continues to see regular starts at the hot corner against right-handed pitchers, and he has homered twice since the All-Star break. He is hitting just .222 over that span, so he doesn't have much value outside of deep leagues and as a cheap daily option.

Gillaspie came off the bench in a big way Sunday, hitting a three-run homer in the eventual 5-3 loss to San Diego.
EDGE Analysis
Gillaspie entered the seventh inning with Padres' starter Edwin Jackson throwing a no-hitter. Jackson's pitch count was up and had trouble locating the ball which caused him to groove a 3-1 fastball down the middle of the plate which Gillaspie crushed into the right field bleachers. Despite not starting Sunday, he should be back in the lineup Tuesday when the Giants take on Boston right-hander Rick Porcello.
