De Aza started in right field and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Friday night's win over the Royals. He has hit safely in three straight games, going 5-for-11 with three extra base hits, two runs and four RBI. De Aza has started three of the past four and six of the last eight games, as it looks like Red Sox manager John Farrell has moved him ahead of Rusney Castillo for the moment. Once Dustin Pedroia (knee), Farrell will probably use right field to get Brock Holt at-bats, so De Aza's run of starts is not open ended.

De Aza was used as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning and tapped back to the mound for the final out in Boston's loss to Atlanta on Monday. De Aza is 4-for-22 (.182) with one RBI since joining the Red Sox earlier this month.

De Aza made his Boston debut Friday night, starting in left field and going 1-for-3 with a strikout in a win over Oakland. With A's lefty Scott Kazmir on the hill, manager John Farrell gave David Ortiz and Pablo Sandoval, two players that have been struggling against left-handers, the night off. That spurred a lineup shuffle that had Hanley Ramirez serve as designated hitter while De Aza made his first start in a Red Sox uniform.

The Orioles traded De Aza to the Red Sox on Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports. De Aza will head to Boston after being designated for assignment by the Orioles last week. He tallied eight extra-base hits in 30 games with the Orioles earlier this season, but he also posted a .214 batting average and an ugly 7:34 BB:K ratio. De Aza will fill a reserve outfield role for the Red Sox, and his playing time figures to be minimal.

De Aza was designated for assignment Wednesday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. De Aza's .214/.277/.359 batting line likely played a big role in his removal from the 40-man roster. A spot was needed for the addition of Ryan Flaherty on the 40-man, and it appears the club has elected to keep the other combination of outfielders. Considering his $5 million contract, it's a bit surprising that the team made the move, but he'll now go on waivers and, if unclaimed, would likely be reassigned to the minors.

De Aza is out of the lineup Saturday. Travis Snider will get the start in left field Saturday as De Aza is out of the lineup for the third time in six games. He is unquestionably a part-time player at the moment, and his production when he is in the lineup is lacking (.229/.295/.385).

De Aza is out of the lineup Wednesday, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports. Steve Pearce will get the start in left field with Rey Navarro starting at second base Wednesday. De Aza is coming off a three-hit game Tuesday, but bright moments have been few and far between for De Aza since the first couple weeks of the season.

De Aza is out of the lineup Sunday against the Angels, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. De Aza went 2-for-10 with a walk while starting the last three games, but will give way to Travis Snider in left field Sunday. While it appears De Aza still has a grasp on a regular lineup spot, his on-base percentage sits at a grisly .261 a month and a half through the season, which may prompt manager Buck Showalter to keep him on the bench with more frequency.

De Aza is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. De Aza's absence comes as no surprise, given that he was only in the lineup for four of the previous 10 games, and the Orioles are facing left-handed Mark Buehrle on Tuesday. De Aza started the year on the better side of a platoon, but he now seems to be more of a part-time player, as he's struggled since the beginning of the season.

De Aza is out of the lineup Monday against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports. De Aza appears to be receiving a standard day off Monday, with Steve Pearce starting in left field in his place. He's struggled a bit at the plate to begin the season, slashing just .211/.250/.382 with one home run, 11 runs and six RBI.
