The Toronto Maple Leafs are believed to have some interest in Martin Brodeur. Brodeur plans to test the free agent waters. Toronto has had interest in Brodeur in the past and if they lured him over, he would primarily serve as a mentor for Jonathan Bernier and the team's backup goaltender.

Martin Brodeur excited about the prospect of playing for a new team. Brodeur plans to test the unrestricted free agent market in the hopes of playing for one more season before retiring. "It's a little bit of the unknown," Brodeur said. "I know it's only for one season, but I'm excited to see the interest. That's the big thing for me - to see what kind of team or what kind of situation I can get myself into. That's the excitement part. For me, to go outside the bubble, that's something I never did. So, it will be interesting." He'll probably find a team that's willing to give him a chance to compete for the starting job, but we doubt he'll enter the 2014-15 campaign as a team's clear number one.

Goaltender Martin Brodeur says he isn't likely to sign with his hometown Montreal Canadiens when he becomes a free agent this summer. "Montreal would be tough," the future Hall of Famer says. "For me, I'm so used to being in the States and playing in the type of markets I'm used to playing in. But, again, I don't know. That's something that when we come to that bridge, we'll go over it. But it's something that, put it this way, they're not too much on my radar." Carey Price is the Canadiens' No. 1 goaltender, backed up by Peter Budaj and Dustin Tokarski, who played relatively well in the Stanley Cup playoffs after Price was injured. Brodeur has said he will explore the market when his contract with the New Jersey Devils expires June 30. He is looking for a more prominent role, ideally on a Stanley Cup contender, after splitting time with Cory Schneider this season, when the Devils did not make the playoffs. Brodeur says 2014-15 will likely be his last season.

Martin Brodeur said the 2014-15 campaign is "probably going to be my last year." He's getting ready to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent in a couple of weeks, so his last season could very well come in a different NHL uniform. "This organization means everything to me," he said. "I don't feel pushed out. I feel appreciated in all ways. ... But, like any competitor, you want to play. That's why I want to see if there's a place that I can play a lot more. If not, it's going to be a team that is going to have a really good chance to win if I'm not going to play as much." Brodeur added that he wants the Devils to sign a long-term deal with Cory Schneider because he is "the goalie of the future in New Jersey."

Martin Brodeur says he is going to test the free agent market on July 1st and will most likely part ways with the New Jersey Devils, the team that drafted him 20th overall in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. 24 years, four Vezina Trophies and three Stanley Cups after joining the Devils organization, the NHL's all-time winningest goaltender has decided he's ready to leave New Jersey. Brodeur did not completely rule out a return to the Devils, but says he does not want to "mess up the cards" for the Devils, who acquired Cory Schneider as their number one goaltender last year. "I've come to the conclusion that I'm definitely going to be available July 1,'' Brodeur told ESPN.com on Friday. "I want to play one more season and I want to see what's out there." Brodeur says he wants to join a contending team if he takes a backup role, but is open to joining any team if a starting job is available.

Devils coach Pete DeBoer would love to have Martin Brodeur back on the team next year. "I haven't got any updates on that. I can tell you, if he wants to come back I would welcome him with open arms," said DeBoer. "You can never have enough great goaltending." Having Brodeur return might not be the best scenario because it could cause a potential conflict with Cory Schneider, who is expecting being New Jersey's starter in 2014-15, but DeBoer thought "they both handled it professionally" despite some rough patches. Brodeur is eligible to be an unrestricted free agent in July, but he is open to re-signing with the Devils.

With the possibility of retirement or relocation from the New Jersey Devils in mind, Martin Brodeur earned an emotional win as his team beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 on Sunday. Brodeur, 41, finishes the 2013-14 season with a 19-14-6 record, .901 save percentage and 2.51 GAA. Now with 688 career wins, Brodeur could very well hit the 700-win mark if he comes back next season, even as a potential backup.

Martin Brodeur will play between the pipes on Sunday. This is just confirmation of what was already suspected. Brodeur would like to return for the 2013-14 campaign, although it remains to be seen what the market for him will be like. It's also unclear if he will want to play for the Devils knowing that he will be Cory Schneider's understudy. So this might be Brodeur's last game in a Devils' uniform, but that's far from a sure thing.

Look for Martin Brodeur to return to the NHL for another season as he wants 700 career wins. Brodeur, who may be playing his final game for the New Jersey Devils, is sitting at 687 wins which is well ahead of the retired Patrick Roy who is second with 551 wins. "A little bit. It's a round number," Brodeur said about winning 700. "You always look at 625, 650, 675. I'm close, so hopefully I'll have a chance to get it." Brodeur is slated to become an unrestricted free agent and if he chooses to return to New Jersey, he will likely back up Cory Schneider once again.
