Bruce Levine of CBS Chicago reports that Tigers executive Scott Reid is scouting Cubs' OF Nate Schierholtz and INF Darwin Barney. With shortstop Jose Iglesias and outfielder Andy Dirks both expected to miss significant time due to injury, Detroit's decision-makers are hunting down contingency plans as we speak. Schierholtz slashed .251/.301/.470 with 21 homers and 68 RBI in his first full season with the Cubs last year. Barney is a lauded defender with experience at shortstop who won a Gold Glove at second base in 2012.

Nate Schierholtz went 2-for-3 with a walk, homer, two runs and two RBI as the Cubs defeated the Reds 9-0 on Saturday. It was the first homer of Schierholtz's spring. Chicago's right fielder is deployed correctly by his employer -- 87 percent of his plate appearances against right-handed pitching last season -- and that's one of the reasons he's an interesting sleeper in NL-only formats. He slashed .251/.301/.470 with 21 homers and 68 RBI in his first full season with the Cubs last year. It might have been his last, too, as Chicago is expected to shop Schierholtz if he hits well enough for them to get a decent return back.

Nate Schierholtz went 2-for-3 with a double as the Cubs defeated the Athletics 6-4 on Tuesday. Schierholtz took 87 percent of his plate appearances against right-handed pitching last season. He isn't very effective against same-handed pitching, so it seems likely the Cubs will use him the same way going forward. However, he might end up becoming a trade chip for the Cubs near the end of July.

Nate Schierholtz (jaw) returned to action at Cubs camp on Saturday. Schierholtz was sent home early on Friday after a nasty collision with Junior Lake in the outfield. He'll resume full workouts, and the jaw injury isn't expected to be an issue moving forward.

Nate Schierholtz was sent home from Cubs' camp Friday after a collision in the outfield with Junior Lake. It was considered a precautionary measure. Barring anything unforeseen, Schierholtz should be back in camp on Saturday.

Cubs avoided arbitration with OF Nate Schierholtz by agreeing to a one-year, $5 million contract. Schierholtz gets a sizable raise after putting up a career year last season for the Cubs, batting .251/.301/.470 with 21 homers and 68 RBI. Entering his walk year, the 29-year-old seems likely to be a trade candidate over the summer.

FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Diamondbacks are interested in acquiring outfielder Nate Schierholtz from the Cubs. It's not known if the two sides have had trade discussions, but the Diamondbacks are in the market for a corner outfielder. Schierholtz, who turns 30 in February, batted .251/.301/.470 with 21 home runs and 68 RBI over 137 games this past season and is arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter.

Nate Schierholtz connected for a two-run homer in a win over the Brewers on Thursday. Luis Valbuena and Brian Bogusevic also homered in the victory. Schierholtz has cooled off a bit since the All-Star break, but his 21 home runs and 67 RBI have been a nice surprise for the Cubs and fantasy owners alike.

Nate Schierholtz went 1-for-4 with an RBI double, plating the Cubs lone run in Saturday's loss to the Pirates. Schierholtz's first inning double off Gerrit Cole would've netted him a pair of RBI, but Anthony Rizzo was gunned out at the plate attempting to score. The 29-year-old outfielder has been a very consistent run producer in the middle of the Cubs lineup this season, slashing .253/.306/.480 with 20 homers and 65 RBI in 123 games.

Nate Schierholtz (back) is in the Cubs' starting lineup Monday against the Dodgers. Schierholtz left Sunday's game after tweaking his back while running to first base, but it's not a major concern. He'll bat cleanup against Zack Greinke.
