Broxton tossed a scoreless eighth inning and recorded his fifth hold of the season in Monday's victory over the Tigers. Broxton made things interesting by allowing the first two batters to reach base, but he recovered thanks to a double play and a strikeout -- which was capped off by a 98 MPH fastball. Broxton owns an unsightly 6.75 ERA in 2015, but he has not had that fastball velocity for much of the season and did not give up a run in his last two outings, so there is reason to think he can turn things around. The Brewers are hoping so too, as they continue to use him in the setup role in front of closer Francisco Rodriguez.

Broxton struck out all three batters he faced in the eighth inning Thursday against the Reds for his second hold of the season. Broxton's given up a couple big long balls this year, which have skewed his ERA, but he's been on point with his control, striking out 10 without a walk over 6.2 innings so far. He should continue to get consistent work setting up Francisco Rodriguez and would be the natural choice for saves if K-Rod goes down with an injury.

Broxton has allowed two earned runs in four innings (4.50 ERA) while posting a 5:0 K:BB ratio in four appearances out of the Brewers' bullpen. Broxton gave up a two-run moon shot to the Rockies' Carlos Gonzalez in his second outing of the season, but he has pitched well outside of that appearance. He is the Brewers' setup man in front of Francisco Rodriguez, and would almost certainly take over the closer's duties should Rodriguez falter or suffer an injury.

Broxton is now in line to serve as a setup man for the Brewers following the team's signing of Francisco Rodriguez on Thursday, MLB.com's Adam McCalvy reports. Broxton was previously the favorite to open the season as the Brewers' closer, but Rodriguez's addition to the roster pushes him down the pecking order a rung or two. Broxton and Will Smith figure to share the setup duties for the Brewers, but Broxton is likely next in line to close if Rodriguez struggles or suffers an injury.

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Monday that as the roster stands right now, Broxton is the team's closer. The expectation is that the Brewers will add a lefty to the bullpen to replace the departed Zach Duke, but Broxton is penciled in as the replacement for Francisco Rodriguez. In limited opportunities with the Brewers after he was acquired in August, Broxton had a 10.5 K/9 and 1.7 BB/9 over 10.1 innings, while his past experience as a closer has seemingly placed him ahead of the likes of Will Smith and Jeremy Jeffress on the depth chart. Roenicke mentioned Smith and Jeffress as options to pick up the occasional save when Broxton is unavailable. Of course, there are plenty of moving parts, including the potential return of Jim Henderson and Tyler Thornburg, the possibility of a trade, or the decision to use Jimmy Nelson out of the bullpen if the team's current stable of starting pitchers remain on the roster (and healthy) through spring training.

Broxton was traded to the Brewers on Sunday, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports. Broxton will strengthen a Brewers' bullpen for the stretch run in 2014, but is also under contract for the 2015 season and has a mutual option for 2016. He will likely take on an eighth inning role for the Brewers this season, with Francisco Rodriguez firmly entrenched as the team's closer, but could serve as the closer next season, as Rodriguez is on just a one-year deal.

Broxton was shaky for the second outing in a row Wednesday against the Cubs, giving up a run on three hits while allowing both of his inherited runners to score. Broxton gave up rockets to the first two batters he faced before rallying to get out of the inning. But he was helped in large part by the Cubs' Starlin Castro failing to get to second base on a ball hit off the center field wall - Castro watched the ball nearly all the way up the first base line, thinking it had gone out. After that, Broxton subsequently got a strikeout and an all-important double play that wouldn't have been otherwise possible. So instead of a blown save, Broxton got his 21st hold of the season.

Broxton earned a very shaky save Sunday against the Braves. He allowed a hit and two walks before finally recording the final out on a ground ball. Broxton was pitching on his third consecutive day, which may explain why he was so wild. He was pressed into service with a three-run lead, two outs and a runner on-base because Aroldis Chapman was unavailable, having pitched extensively the two previous days.

Jonathan Broxton earned his sixth save of the season Sunday in the Reds' defeat of the Brewers. Broxton retired all three batters he faced in a perfect frame. Aroldis Chapman has pitched just once since June 28 and Sunday's opportunity was a big one against the first-place Brew Crew, so something may be wrong with the flame-throwing left-hander. Broxton is worth stashing right now in fantasy leagues just in case.

Jonathan Broxton took his first blown save of the season Friday against the Rockies, but ended up with the win after Joey Votto homered. The run Broxton gave up in the top of the ninth was the first he's allowed in nine innings this year, so he's still been a nice surprise for the Reds. He'll continue to close this weekend, but he should be bumped to a setup role once Aroldis Chapman comes off the DL and gets eased back into closing duties.
