Reds placed RHP Jonathan Broxton on the 15-day disabled list with a flexor mass strain in his elbow. Broxton will undergo season-ending elbow surgery at some point over the next few weeks. The Reds' decision to give him a three-year, $21 million contract this past winter looked like a mistake from the get-go.

Jonathan Broxton (elbow) is expected to be placed back on the disabled list. Broxton is having more elbow issues, though this time the pain is in a different spot. The big righty noted that the discomfort "felt like a knife in the belly of my forearm." He'll undergo an MRI, but it sure sounds like surgery might be coming.

Jonathan Broxton left Wednesday's game with an apparent injury. After Broxton allowed a homer and a four-pitch walk to start off the eighth, the Reds' trainer came to the mound and eventually walked off with the big righty. Broxton had been unavailable the last two days due to an elbow issue, so it's presumably a flare-up of that problem. He, of course, missed nearly two months with an elbow injury earlier this season.

Jonathan Broxton was unavailable Monday and Tuesday due to more soreness with his right elbow. Although Reds manager Dusty Baker wouldn't reveal the exact nature of Broxton's injury, he said it's "similar stuff" to what the righty dealt with previously. Broxton missed nearly two months of action earlier this season due to a strain in his right elbow. "He hasn't been [available]," Baker said on Wednesday. "I think he's OK tonight, but he wasn't OK last night or the night before."

Reds activated RHP Jonathan Broxton from the 15-day disabled list. Broxton has been sidelined since the middle of June with a right elbow strain, but he's finally ready to rejoin the Reds' bullpen. He had a 4.33 ERA and 20/11 K/BB ratio in 27 innings prior to the injury.

Jonathan Broxton (elbow) is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday. Broxton has been on the shelf since the middle of June with an elbow strain. The Reds will likely ease him back into a setup role with some low-leverage appearances. He had a 4.33 ERA in 27 innings before the injury.

After throwing a simulated inning Saturday, Jonathan Broxton (elbow) will make what could be a final rehab appearance Sunday. Pitching on back-to-back days should be the final hurdle Broxton needs to clear before being activated. He should rejoin the Reds on Tuesday after Monday's off day. The big righty has been out since mid-June with a strained elbow.

The Reds officially sent Jonathan Broxton to Triple-A Louisville on a rehabilitation assignment. Broxton begins the assignment today after a successful round of live batting practice over the weekend convinced doctors to clear him. The burly righty needs to show he can pitch on back-to-back days before being activated, but he should return within the next week or so.

Reds manager Dusty Baker was pleased with how Jonathan Broxton (elbow) looked during live batting practice on Saturday. "He was throwing the ball good," Baker said. "He didn't have his command. That's to be expected. There was no pain. It was good." The skipper added that he wasn't sure when Broxton will return but noted that the reliever "has to go back-to-back days" first.
