Jonathan Broxton (elbow) will throw live batting practice Saturday. He was cleared to face hitters after throwing a couple bullpen sessions with no issues. "He had a great bullpen yesterday," Reds pitching coach Bryan Price said of Broxton. "He was throwing all of his pitches and looked sharp. It looked like he was in good throwing shape. The next step will be to face hitters and maybe after that, get him out to a rehab assignment." The big reliever should return early next month if all goes well.

Jonathan Broxton (elbow) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Monday. Broxton mixed in some breaking balls in the session, which is obviously an encouraging sign. He'll throw another bullpen session Wednesday and appears close to going out on a rehab assignment. A return in early August appears reasonable.

Jonathan Broxton (elbow) continues to long toss, but he has not yet been cleared to throw off a mound. Broxton is dealing with a lingering elbow issue. Broxton has a 4.33 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 20/11 K/BB ratio through his first 27 innings this season. The Reds are disappointed in his progress, as they assumed they'd have Broxton back in late June.

Jonathan Broxton (elbow) remains without a timetable to begin a throwing program. Broxton is dealing with a lingering elbow issue and has been shut down since being placed on the disabled list. "He's progressing," manager Dusty Baker said. "It's coming a little slower than he would have liked."

Jonathan Broxton was unable to begin a throwing program on Friday due to lingering elbow issues. "If he's sensing any kind of discomfort, we try not to agitate that by throwing," Reds pitching coach Bryan Price said Saturday. "We're real close. He had a throw day in Arizona. It went fine, but he had a little bit of tenderness afterward." Broxton has been out since June 13 with an elbow strain and probably won't be back until late July.

Reds pitching coach Bryan Price said Wednesday that Jonathan Broxton (elbow) is "very unlikely" to be activated from the disabled list when he's eligible on Saturday. Not surprising. Broxton, out since June 13 with a flexor mass strain in his right elbow, played catch yesterday for the first time since he was shut down. The Reds will see how he responds to the increased workload before putting a timetable on his return.

Jonathan Broxton (elbow) is expected to resume throwing at some point this weekend. Broxton has been idle since being placed on the disabled list June 14 with a right elbow flexor strain. "He's been working on strengthening it," trainer Paul Lessard said Wednesday. "He finally has his full range of motion back. We wanted to get it flushed out."

Jonathan Broxton is dealing with swelling in his right elbow, and is listed as day-to-day. The big right-hander has struggled to get into a groove this season, posting a 4.33 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 20/11 K/BB ratio through his first 27 innings. While it doesn't sound like a serious injury, Broxton owners should monitor the situation closely.

Jonathan Broxton has lowered his ERA from 6.35 to 4.41 in May. He hasn't allowed an earned run in five appearances this month. The former lights-out Dodgers closer has lost all of his mixed league appeal pitching in front of Aroldis Chapman, but he's still plenty useful in NL-only formats and leagues that count holds.
