Broxton could see save chances with Trevor Rosenthal removed from the closer role, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Seugn Hwan Oh and Kevin Siegrist were also mentioned by manager Mike Matheny as candidates to see save opportunities. Broxton seems like a distant third in the competition, as he has a walk rate over 12 percent and a FIP over 4.00 this season, but the 32-year-old does have experience closing games.

Broxton (1-0) pitched two innings of one-hit ball in Friday's 9-3 extra-inning victory over the Pirates. He struck out a batter.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran righty got the job done over his two frames, and secured his first win of the season after the Cardinals' six-run explosion in the top half of the 12th inning. The 31-year-old now has six consecutive scoreless outings, and has pitched well overall this season outside of two forgettable outings. Broxton has recorded five holds, while also sporting a 23:14 K:BB ratio.

Broxton struck out one in a scoreless inning of work Friday against Los Angeles.
EDGE Analysis
Broxton has now logged two consecutive no-hit, no-walk, innings and has tallied two strikeouts during that time. The 31-year-old middle reliever now owns a 2.40 ERA and 9 K/9 ratio over 15 innings.

Broxton pitched a scoreless eighth inning, walking two and striking out one in the Cardinals 2-1 loss to the Cubs on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Broxton has been used mainly as the eighth inning guy and has pitched well. He's only given up one earned run over 5.1 innings and has struck out seven batters. He'll likely be counted on this year in the seventh or eighth innings before Trevor Rosenthal takes the hill in the ninth.

Broxton pitched a scoreless seventh Friday against Detroit, giving up two singles in the process.
EDGE Analysis
Broxton has pitched five innings this spring, allowing four hits and a run while striking out two and walking one. He's looked solid and should be in line for a fair amount of bridge work in getting the Cardinals to their setup men and closer. The role will make his hold numbers hard to project, though, so he probably won't hold much value in all but the deepest of leagues.

Broxton agreed to a two-year contract with the Cardinals on Thursday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran reliever will rejoin the Cardinals on a two-year deal after having his team option declined by the club shortly after the season's conclusion. Broxton had a rocky first half in 2015, but settled in nicely down the stretch with a 2.28 ERA and 9.4 K/9 mark after the All-Star break. He figures to again be a fixture in the seventh and eighth innings for the Cardinals in 2016.

Broxton had his team option declined Monday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Broxton actually enjoyed success after a midseason trade to the Cardinals, working to a 2.66 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 23.2 innings in St. Louis, but he'll now become a free agent. After struggling throughout much of the first half as a member of the Brewers, the 31-year-old's strong second half should help him land a spot in the back end of a bullpen.

Broxton (4-5) earned a win, walking one over a scoreless inning in Monday's 3-0 victory over the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Tossing a scoreless frame and leaving the game tied through eight innings, Broxton became the pitcher of record when St. Louis scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning. Broxton has provided a boost to St. Louis' bullpen since his trade deadline acquisition from the Brewers, posting a 2.45 ERA and 10.64 K/9 since joining the Cardinals.

Broxton, working in the seventh inning with a lead for the first time this season, threw a clean frame in Sunday's victory over the Diamondbacks. Manager Craig Counsell removed Broxton from the setup role after he served up a go-ahead home run in Friday's game, and used Jeremy Jeffress in that role Sunday for the first time this year. Jeffress allowed a game-tying home run himself, but Broxton does not figure to immediately reclaim the setup role. Jeffress has been the more consistent of the two this season, so it seems likely Counsell will give him another shot to protect the lead next time the Brewers are trying to hold an eighth-inning lead.

Broxton (1-1) imploded in the eighth inning Wednesday, loading the bases on two hits and a walk, then giving up a three-run triple to Detroit's Nick Castellanos. For a couple appearances there, it looked like Broxton was trending back in the right direction, but that illusion was quickly shattered Wednesday. Despite an 18:4 K:BB, he's now given up a stunning 24 hits and 14 runs -- all earned -- in just 15.1 innings this year. Even if Francisco Rodriguez were to go down, it's hard to imagine the Brewers handing save chances to Broxton with the way he's pitched.
