Manager Ryne Sandberg indicated Brown (Achilles) could remain on his rehab assignment until Tuesday, the Phillies' official site reports. Brown's rehab assignment must end on Tuesday as he will hit the maximum of 20 days. He is just 6-for-30 with a double and a home run between High-A Clearwater and Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The Phillies want to see his bat get going before they activate him off the disabled list.

Brown (Achilles) will continue his rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News reports. Brown is 4-for-14 with a home run and five strikeouts through five games for High-A Clearwater. He'll now move up to face a higher quality of pitching, and it's expected that he'll need at least three or four more games. While he's thus unlikely to be ready by Tuesday, Brown could join the Phillies by the end of next week.

Brown (Achilles) will be placed on the disabled list to start the season, Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News reports. The Phillies confirmed Brown's status Tuesday morning, and while the outfielder is expected to DH in a minor-league game later in the day, he doesn't have a timetable to make his 2015 regular-season debut. The plan is to bring Brown along slowly, but he could still get into games within the first couple weeks of the season, as his injury doesn't seem overly serious.

General manager Ruben Amaro said Brown (Achilles) will likely open the season on the disabled list, MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports. This will open the door for Grady Sizemore to make the team out of camp, despite a slow spring. Brown has not played in a spring training game with the big league club since Mar. 19 due to tendinitis in his left Achilles, so his DL stint would be eligible to be backdated nine days so he would only miss a week of the regular season. Once healthy, Brown should take over the right field duties in what amounts to his last season to prove to the Phillies that he is an everyday player.

Brown (Achilles) hopes to DH in a minor league game Monday, the Phillies' official site reports. Brown has not played since March 19 due to tendinitis in his left Achilles. He remains optimistic that he will be ready for Opening Day, but manager Ryne Sandberg expressed doubts. If Brown has to start the year on the disabled list the Phillies will be able to back date it nine days allowing Brown to only miss a week of the regular season.

Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg hinted Friday that Brown (Achilles) may need to start the season on the disabled list, CSN Philadelphia's Jim Salisbury reports. Brown, who was diagnosed with moderate tendinitis in his left Achilles, hasn't played in a game since last Thursday. While he hasn't been ruled out for Opening Day, Brown will likely miss at least the first few games of the season. His absence would free up at-bats for some combination of Jordan Danks, Darin Ruf and Jeff Francoeur.
