Chicago Cubs catcher David Ross will not be displaced from the roster upon fellow catcher Miguel Montero's return from a thumb injury, according to MLB.com. Montero is starting a rehab assignment Monday and should return soon, but the Cubs plan to carry Ross as well as hot-hitting rookie Kyle Schwarber on the roster, with Ross continuing to serve as Jon Lester's personal catcher.

Ross (concussion) was activated from the disabled list Sunday, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Ross won't start Sunday, but he could be the backup to Taylor Teagarden after Miguel Montero jammed his thumb Saturday. However, Ross will likely remain the secondary catcher and the personal catcher to Jon Lester in the second half, minimizing his utility.

Ross (concussion) has been medically cleared and could be activated Sunday if Miguel Montero (thumb) is out, Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago reports. Ross landed on the 7-day concussion list retroactive to July 2, and his medical clearance could have him behind the plate Sunday if Montero is unable to play. Montero is set to undergo an MRI on his jammed thumb, and the results of the MRI should give more clarity on the Cubs' situation at catcher heading into Sunday's game.

Despite passing post-concussion tests, Ross (concussion) probably won't be activated until after the All-Star break, MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports. The Cubs are expected to take a cautious approach with Ross, even though they're slated to face three lefties over the final three days of the season's first half. Ross will presumably replace Taylor Teagarden as the backup catcher immediately after the All-Star break.

Ross will be placed on the seven-day disabled list with a concussion, retroactive to Thursday, Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald reports. Ross is reportedly just dealing with a mild concussion so he could certainly be ready to reenter the lineup after his current stint on the DL is completed. In the meantime, Taylor Teagarden will be called up to act as the reserve catcher behind normal starer Miguel Montero.

Ross will replace the injured Miguel Montero (back) in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Indians. Ross typically only plays when Jon Lester is on the mound, but he will jump into the lineup Wednesday after Montero was scratched due to back spasms. Ross will hit eighth against Indians starter Shaun Marcum.

Ross performed a rare feat Thursday, picking off a runner to get the last out of the game. Also rare: Ross has started each of the last three games. He's just 1-for-9 with five strikeouts in that span, but it looks like he'll have an uptick of playing time with Welington Castillo completely out of the picture. While Ross is certainly Jon Lester's personal catcher, he hasn't usurped Miguel Montero as the starter yet.

Ross (abdomen) will catch and bat seventh Saturday against the Pirates. A bout of abdominal tightness resulted in Ross' removal from Thursday's game after eight innings, but clearly it was nothing overly serious, as he'll be fine to handle his normal duties as Jon Lester's personal catcher. Ross is 5-for-26 (.192) and four doubles and three RBI in 18 games this season.

Ross was removed from Thursday's game against the Mets due to abdominal tightness, Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald reports. Ross was taken out at the end of the eighth inning, after fouling out on a bunt attempt. If he needs to miss an extended stretch of time, the Cubs won't necessarily need another catcher, as they already have Miguel Montero and Welington Castillo on the roster.

Ross hit a two-run double in the 11th inning against the Reds on Friday. It was Ross' only hit in five at-bats Friday. For the year he has just two hits and four walks in 17 plate appearances. He started Friday because Jon Lester was on the mound, which is just about the only time he'll get behind the plate with both Miguel Montero and Welington Castillo around.
