Since getting called up on May 20, Worley has served mostly as a spot starter for the rotation, occasionally seeing time out of the bullpen as a means to keep him in form. Luckily, the bullpen pitched 5.1 scoreless innings after his removal and the offense came to life, propelling the club to victory. Worley hadn't been convincing prior to this start and now carries an unsightly 6.59 ERA to go along with a 9:4 K:BB through 12.2 innings this season. He is currently scheduled to start Friday against the Pirates and will need to deliver a more encouraging result if he is to maintain his current role.

Manager Don Mattingly said Worley will likely head to the bullpen once Jeff Locke (shoulder) is activated from the DL, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

Worley has struggled to retire the opposition, as batters have hit .305 with him on the mound. In a corresponding move, Odrisamer Despaigne was optioned to New Orleans.

The deal is still pending a physical, but if everything checks out it appears that Worley will open the season with Triple-A New Orleans. The 29-year-old was recently released by the Nationals after posting a 4.80 ERA over 15.0 innings this spring. He'll serve as organizational pitching depth for the Marlins in 2017.
