His 4.33 ERA on the season doesn't look too bad, but his 1.47 WHIP and 4.23 BB/9 will likely need major improvement if he's going to have a role in the Marlins' 2017 rotation.

It seems that his risky style of working out of jams has finally caught up to him.

It was a bizarre stat line for Koehler, who allowed just two hits in the start, although one was a three-run homer. Koehler is usually one of the Marlins' most consistent starters, having gone at least five innings his last 11 starts. He has struggled a bit with command of late, however, walking 13 batters over his last five starts. Koehler's ERA rose to 4.02 with the short outing, and he'll look to get that number back below four when he takes the hill against the Mets on Monday.

Koehler didn't factor into the decision on Friday versus the Phillies, striking out seven and giving up two earned runs on five hits and three walks over five innings-plus.

The veteran ran into some control problems, firing 101 pitches over just over five innings. Koehler didn't run into as much trouble with the long ball as in his last start, giving up just a solo shot to Ryan Howard. The 30-year-old has pitched reasonably well over his last 11 starts, but has just one victory since Aug. 3. He'll try again for his third consecutive season with double-digit victories when he takes on the Nationals next Wednesday.

The right-hander was definitely not on his game, but it mattered very little with the way Rich Hill pitched, as he didn't allow a base runner through seven innings. Three of the six hits Koehler yielded Saturday were home runs, which is a season high. Through June, he had allowed just six bombs, but Koehler has now tossed up 12 homers since July 4. He will look to fix his long ball problem Friday against Philadelphia.

Koehler had allowed eight runs combined and suffered a pair of losses in his last two starts, and although he pitched exceptionally well Sunday, the bullpen blew a lead after he was removed from the game, costing him a shot at a victory. He also did well to limit baserunners Sunday, something that has not come naturally this season, and his WHIP now sits at 1.41 despite a respectable 3.87 ERA. He will face the Dodgers in his next scheduled start Saturday.

Koehler struggled from the get-go on Tuesday, giving up three runs in the bottom of the first to relinquish a 2-0 lead his offense handed him in the top half of the first. Koehler has been decidedly mediocre in 2016, going 9-10 with a 4.02 ERA , 1.43 WHIP, and a 7.26 K/9 rate. He has been somewhat better in the second half however, posting 3.33 and 3.50 ERAs in July and August respectively. Koehler has also walked just 17 batters over the past two months after going through a rough stretch in late May where he walked 20 batters over four starts. He'll look to bounce back in his next start against the Indians on Sunday.

Thursday marked Koehler's first loss since July 16 -- a stretch of seven starts -- and ended a six-game streak of quality outings. On the bright side, Koehler's six strikeouts matched his second-highest total since late-June and gave him 31 K's over his last 36 innings. The righty will look to rebound when he takes the hill for his next start Tuesday against the Mets.
