Mike Adams said Friday that he wishes he "felt a little bit better." Adams owns a 2.57 ERA and 12/2 K/BB ratio over seven innings this season, but he has displayed diminished velocity. The veteran set-up man indicated that he might not be 100 percent following October to correct his thoracic outlet syndrome, so the situation is worth monitoring. He joined the Phillies this winter on a two-year, $12 million contract.

Mike Adams will make his Grapefruit League debut Thursday. Adams had surgery in October to correct his thoracic outlet syndrome and is being held back due to the lengthy spring training schedule. The 34-year-old registered a 3.27 ERA in 61 appearances last season and will open 2013 in a setup role for Jonathan Papelbon.

Mike Adams is on schedule for spring training following surgery in October to correct his Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Adams has already thrown off a mound three times and will do so again on Thursday. He probably won't pitch until the second week of the Grapefruit League schedule, but there's no need to push it with spring training being longer than usual this year. "It has nothing to do with injury reasons," said Adams. "It's going to be a long spring training. There really is no reason to get 18 innings in the spring. We're going to save some bullets from the very beginning." Adams inked a two-year, $12 million contract with the Phillies over the winter and could be a shutdown set-up man for Jonathan Papelbon.

Mike Adams has admitted that he dealt with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome all of last season. "Last year was a struggle for me," Adams said. "The TOS was something that kicked in in early April. I didn't know what was happening. I thought I was just having some shoulder discomfort issues. The majority of the season I battled not having the same stuff I had previously." This would help explain why the reliever's velocity was down and he wasn't as effective in 2012. Adams, of course, eventually had surgery in October to address the issue. Assuming he returns at 100 percent, he could be in line for a big bounce-back season.

Phillies signed RHP Mike Adams to a two-year, $12 million contract with a vesting option for 2015. Adams agreed to the deal last weekend then had it finalized on Thursday after passing his physical. The 34-year-old righty boasts an exceptional 2.28 career ERA, 1.06 career WHIP and 9.0 career K/9. He should do well in a setup role behind Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon.

Yahoo Sports' Tim Brown reports that the Phillies and Mike Adams are close to a two-year deal with a vesting option for a third year. The Phillies have decided to put some of their Shane Victorino-Hunter Pence savings into building one of the game's most expensive reports. KRIS-TV reported earlier that the Adams contract would be worth $18 million over three years. They may have the dollars right, but Brown reports that the third year will be in the form of a vesting option.

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com says the "market is building" for Mike Adams. Stark doesn't mention any teams in on Adams, but he'll surely have no shortage of suitors if teams are convinced he'll be recovered from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome surgery by February as he says. ESPN.com's Jim Bowden reported last month that the Red Sox, White Sox and Angels were among the clubs interested in the reliever.

According to Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM, the Red Sox, White Sox and Angels are "playing on" Mike Adams. And the Rangers are hoping to re-sign the talented setup man. Adams, 34, posted a 3.27 ERA in 52 1/3 innings this summer. He has a 2.28 career ERA and 1.06 career WHIP, and may be able to fetch a three-year contract.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said it's "unlikely" free agent Mike Adams will be re-signed. "It's unlikely," Daniels said. "Mike has earned the right to free agency and put up the performance worthy of a substantial contract. We would like to have him back, but it ultimately we haven't done many of the kinds of deals he is looking at." Adams is recovering from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery and could get a slow start to spring training.
