Mark Ellis (quad) is unlikely to come off the disabled list when he's first eligible on Sunday. Dodgers skipper Don Mattingly indicated Friday that Ellis would require a minor league rehab assignment before he returns to the lineup, and that there has been no talk of when that may occur yet. Nick Punto will continue to see the majority of the playing time at second base until Ellis returns.

Dodgers placed 2B Mark Ellis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 27, with a strained right quad. The Dodgers certainly held out for as long as they could, but Ellis' quad just hasn't responded as hoped. Nick Punto will continue to be the primary second baseman while Ellis is sidelined.

Mark Ellis (quad) is not in the Dodgers' lineup again Sunday. Ellis has missed the last eight games and could be placed on the disabled list if he doesn't return Monday. He was batting .458/.444/.750 with two home runs prior to the injury.

Mark Ellis (quad) will be heading to the disabled list if he's unable to return to the Dodgers lineup before Monday. Ellis hasn't played since last Friday due to a strained quad, and while he's making progress he still hasn't been able to return to action. The Dodgers will need to make room on the roster on Monday when Chris Capuano is activated from the disabled list, so if Ellis can't return by then, he's the obvious move.

Mark Ellis (quad) is not in Friday's lineup against the Giants. Ellis hasn't played since he strained his quad last Friday. While the Dodgers were originally expected to place him on the disabled list in order to make room for Clayton Kershaw's return from the bereavement list, the veteran second baseman is listed as a bench player for Friday's game. However, it's unclear whether he's close to returning to action.

Mark Ellis (quad) is expected to be placed on the disabled list prior to Friday's game. Ellis hasn't played since straining his right quad last Friday, and he continues to feel something when he runs. With Carl Crawford (hamstring) also banged up, the Dodgers can't afford to play short-handed any longer. The club is waiting until Friday to make the move because that's when Clayton Kershaw will be activated from the bereavement list.

Mark Ellis (quad) ran in the outfield prior to Tuesday's game. It comes after Ellis was able to play catch and take live batting practice on Sunday. There remains no timetable for the second baseman's return, but he's heading in the right direction.

Mark Ellis (quad) was able to play catch and take live batting practice on Sunday morning. Ellis suffered a strained right quadriceps muscle Friday while running out a groundball. "So far I can swing the bat," said the second baseman. "I can throw fine. I'm still kind of day to day but I'm optimistic." The Dodgers are hoping he won't need a 15-day disabled list stint.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly is optimistic that Mark Ellis (quad) can avoid the disabled list. Ellis left Friday's game with a strained right quad, but Mattingly said the second baseman was feeling "really good" on Saturday. "Let's see what it looks like (Sunday) and we'll be able to make a better decision," Mattingly said.

Mark Ellis (quad) won't be available for Saturday night's game against the Brewers. The Dodgers have yet to make a decision about whether or not Ellis needs a stint on the 15-day disabled list. Skip Schumaker will get the call at second base on Saturday, and could see increased action there if Ellis is sidelined for a significant period of time.
