Dodgers general manager Ned Colleti indicated Tuesday that it's possible Mark Ellis could return in 2014 even after the signing of Alexander Guerrero. The Dodgers inked Guerrero to a four-year deal with the intention of him taking over at second base, but if it turns out that he's not ready, they could pick up Ellis' $5.75 million option rather than give him a $1 million buyout. "We'll see," Colletti said. "I think Mark Ellis did a tremendous job here. I think Mark Ellis has value to this organization, with or without Guerrero."

Mark Ellis went 3-for-4 and tripled as part of the Dodgers' ninth-inning rally Friday in a 7-6 win over the Rays. They're keeping pace with the Diamondbacks; both have won three straight. Ellis had the second of four hits off Fernando Rodney in the comeback. The triple gave him his first RBI since July 30, and he scored multiple runs in a game for the first time since June 10.

X-rays on Mark Ellis' left leg came back negative after fouling a ball off his leg in Saturday's game. Ellis said after the game that he was "just sore" after leaving in the eighth inning of Saturday's game. He said he hoped to play on Sunday, but with the break looming the Dodgers just might err on the side of caution with their second baseman.

Mark Ellis left Saturday's game against the Rockies with an apparent injury. Ellis fouled a ball off his leg in the eighth inning but continued the at-bat, reaching base on an error before exiting. It's unclear what part of the leg he injured with the swing. He was replaced in the game by Nick Punto.

Mark Ellis went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Rockies. Ellis had two-run singles in the fourth and eighth innings. The four RBI tied a season-high. The 36-year-old second baseman is currently on pace to drive in his most runs since 2010 as a member of the Athletics, but he's nothing more than a fringe option in deeper mixed leagues at this point of his career.
