Rays declined DH Luke Scott's $6 million club option for 2013. Not unforeseen after Scott batted just .229/.285/.439 with 14 homers and a .725 OPS this season while struggling to stay healthy. The Rays could have interest in bringing him back at a lesser rate.

Luke Scott (oblique) believes he will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday. Scott went 8-for-26 (.308) with two home runs and six RBI over eight rehab games with High-A Charlotte. He probably would have returned sooner, but the Rays wanted him to get extra time in the minors with Evan Longoria serving exclusively as the DH right now.

Luke Scott (oblique) is aiming to begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday at High-A Port Charlotte. Scott made it through a hitting session on Thursday morning without incident. He should only need to play in two or three rehab games before returning to the Rays' lineup early next week. The designated hitter has been out since July 21 because of an oblique strain.

Luke Scott (oblique) will not be ready to start a rehab assignment Thursday. The Rays had been hoping he'd be ready to rejoin the big club by that time. Scott will stay behind in Tampa while the team goes out on the road to work on hitting off a pitching machine. His return isn't far off.

Luke Scott (oblique) was "very excited" about how he felt during live batting practice Saturday. "Getting back to normal," Scott said. "It was very, very encouraging." Scott could return during the Rays' current homestand, which ends on Thursday, though he called it a "best-case scenario."
