Peralta has decided to retire from baseball, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 40-year-old never signed on with another club after being designated for assignment by the Cubs in July, and he said Friday that he's "not going to play anymore." Peralta never made an All-Star team but he put together a highly respectable 12-year major league career, posting a 4.03 ERA and 1.16 WHIP while pitching for eight different teams.

Peralta has elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Cubs last week, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Cubs could not find a trade partner for Peralta, and the reliever decided to become a free agent rather than report to the team's Triple-A club. Peralta posted a 5.93 ERA over 31 appearances out of the Cubs' bullpen this season but has 620 big league appearances under his belt, so he should still draw interest from teams in need of relief help.

Peralta was designated for assignment Wednesday, Jesse Rogers of ESPNChicago.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After giving up four earned runs across just four innings with the Cubs, Peralta has been designated for assignment to make room for Adam Warren. Warren, who'd been with the Cubs for much of the season, will be recalled from Triple-A Iowa, where he's started two games and been good for a 4.15 ERA.

Peralta gave up two runs on three hits - including a home run - in 1.2 innings of relief against the Mets on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
On the plus side, Peralta struck out three and walked none (though he hit a batter). On the negative side, he's done little in his week with the Cubs to indicate the team will trust him in high-leverage situations. In four appearances covering just three innings, Peralta has given up five hits and five runs.

Peralta had his contract selected by the Cubs on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Peralta will join the Cubs bullpen as they continue to look for a way to boost their relief staff. Peralta had a 5.40 ERA in 26 appearances with the Mariners this season before being designated for assignment, but the Cubs are likely hoping that a change of scenery can bring the best out of Peralta.

Peralta is expected to join the Cubs' bullpen Monday night, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Cubs inked Peralta to a minor league deal earlier in the month after he was DFA'd by the Mariners. The 40-year-old has made only five appearances at Triple-A Iowa, but he'll come up to provide right-handed depth in the bullpen, with the Cubs slated to send lefty Gerardo Concepcion back to Iowa in his place.

Peralta signed a minor league contract with the Cubs on Thursday, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
After being designated for assignment by the Mariners on June 2 and subsequently released two days later, Peralta was able to find a new landing spot fairly quickly. The 40-year-old reliever had a good amount of struggles in 23.1 innings with Seattle, amassing a 5.40 ERA and allowing seven home runs, but he did post an excellent 10.8 K/9 during that time. He'll begin with Triple-A Iowa, but if he can keep the ball in the park better going forward, he could join the Cubs bullpen sometime later in the season.

Peralta was designated for assignment Thursday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Peralta came on to help put out the fire Wednesday in San Diego after starter James Paxton allowed eight runs (three earned) over 3.2 innings. However, Peralta only fanned the flames as he allowed three earned runs on four hits over 1.1 innings of work. His ERA on the season ballooned nearly three full runs over the last month, finishing out at 5.40. He'll now be subject to waivers and could have some interest from teams across the league, but the 40-year old reliever is unlikely to make much of a fantasy impact the rest of the season.

Peralta was hit hard for the second night in a row Saturday, allowing two runs on two homers without recording an out against the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Peralta gave up two runs (and a home run) Friday to the Angels, as well. He's pitched reasonably well this season, and recently the Mariners haven't had a choice but to use him late in games with Joaquin Benoit and Tony Zych on the disabled list. His 4.70 ERA is ugly, but he has 21 strikeouts in 15.1 innings and an MLB-leading 11 holds. With Benoit due back this week, Peralta could see fewer high-leverage situations.

Manager Scott Servais said Monday that Peralta "will probably be the guy we'll lean on" in the eighth inning with Joaquin Benoit (shoulder) on the DL, Bob Dutton the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear who much time Benoit will require on the disabled list due to right shoulder inflammation, but Peralta is slated to take on higher-leverage situations. With more hold opportunities imminent, Peralta will look to parlay his success this season -- two earned runs, eight strikeouts, and a .115 batting average against in eight innings -- to the new role.
