Joel Peralta (virus) will be activated from the disabled list on Monday. Peralta will miss the minimum amount of time with the chikungunya virus, which he contracted over the All-Star break in his native Dominican Republic. The reliever was cleared to return after throwing a scoreless inning for High-A Charlotte on Saturday in his lone rehab appearance.

Rays placed RHP Joel Peralta on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 13, with a virus. The belief is that Peralta caught the chikungunya virus in the Dominican Republic over the All-Star break. It's an illness that is transferred by mosquitoes in the Caribbean and can cause nasty symptoms for over a week. He should be fine by the end of this month.

Joel Peralta (virus) is expected to be placed on the disabled list. Peralta believes that he acquired the chikungunya virus, an illness transferred by mosquitoes in the Caribbean, which is where Peralta spent his All-Star break. He would be placed on the disabled list retroactive to July 13, setting him up to return within a few days assuming he feels up to it. Jeff Beliveau is the most likely replacement on the active roster.

Joel Peralta was unavailable for the Sunday's game against the Twins due to an illness. The Rays needed all hands on deck to preserve a two-run victory over the Twins on Sunday, and it wound up being Kirby Yates who cleaned up Grant Balfour's mess by recording the final two outs. Peralta should be fine in a day or two.

Joel Peralta and Kirby Yates combined to blow the Rays' two-run lead in the ninth Wednesday against the Royals. With Grant Balfour, Jake McGee and Brad Boxberger having been used to get four outs in the seventh and eighth, Peralta was meant to pitch the ninth in a 4-2 game. Peralta, though, was pulled after retiring one of the three batters he faced, with Yates taking over. Yates, who hadn't recorded a win, loss, save, hold or blown save since being called up over a month ago, immediately gave up a three-run homer to Salvador Perez, and the Rays went on to lose 5-4. We're guessing Maddon won't be using this tactic again anytime soon. Ideally, he'd prefer to save Balfour or McGee or even Boxberger for the ninth.

After Jake McGee pitched a scoreless eighth, Joel Peralta surrendered a game-tying solo homer in the ninth Monday against the Yankees, giving him his fifth blown save. Manager Joe Maddon was almost certainly thinking that letting McGee face the heart of the order in the eighth and Peralta the bottom of the order in the ninth was the smart play tonight. It didn't work out, but the Rays won in 12 innings anyway, with Grant Balfour and, especially, Brad Boxberger also pitching effectively. Peralta's stumble would seem to bode well for both McGee and Balfour, but Maddon probably isn't finished playing matchups yet.

Joel Peralta earned his first save of the season in a win over the Astros on Sunday. Peralta hadn't been called upon in the Rays' closer-by-committee since Grant Balfour was demoted, but he answered the bell on Sunday. Peralta struck out two in a perfect ninth inning. It's worth noting that Balfour pitched the seventh and Jake McGee was used in the eighth inning, so it seems like Rays manager Joe Maddon is serious about it being a committee. As such, it's tough to trust any for saves for the time being.

Joel Peralta (illness) isn't sure if he'll be available Monday. Peralta has been unavailable for the past couple of days due to illness. He's feeling better, but will have a better idea about his readiness after he attempts to throw. Consider him day-to-day.
