Athletics placed RHP Jarrod Parker on the 60-day disabled list with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. Parker is set to undergo the second Tommy John surgery of his career on Monday. He won't be a factor again for the Athletics until the early part of the 2015 season. It's a brutal blow, but that good news is that he's still just 25 years old.

Jarrod Parker's Tommy John surgery on his right elbow has been moved up a day and will now be performed on Monday. Dr. James Andrews will wield the scalpel in Florida during a procedure originally expected to take place on March 25. This is Parker's second Tommy John surgery. Once a death sentence for pitchers, recent studies suggest that success for pitchers coming off a second TJ procedure is rising. With A.J. Griffin (elbow) also on the shelf, Jesse Chavez and Tommy Milone are expected to fill the final two spots in Oakland's rotation.

Jarrod Parker will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on March 25. Terrible news for the A's and Parker, who will be having the operation for the second time. He'll obviously miss all of the 2014 campaign but should have a shot to be ready early on in 2015. With A.J. Griffin (elbow) also on the shelf, Jesse Chavez and Tommy Milone are expected to fill the final two spots in Oakland's rotation.

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the Athletics don't believe Jarrod Parker has any structural damage in his arm. He's visiting Dr. James Andrews on Monday as a precautionary measure to confirm that though. With Parker and A.J. Griffin slated to begin the season on the disabled list, there are suddenly openings in the A's rotation for Jesse Chavez and Tommy Milone.

Jarrod Parker is expected to open the season on the disabled list due to tightness in his right forearm. Parker also dealt with tightness in his forearm at the end of last season, and it has cropped up again. The right-hander will visit Dr. James Andrews on Monday, at which point more should be known about his long-term status. The A's could also be without A.J. Griffin (elbow) for a while, so it's been a rough Friday for their rotation.

Jarrod Parker struggled in Monday's start, allowing four runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Dodgers. Andre Ethier did the most damage, crushing a three-run home run to right field in the first inning. Overall, Parker allowed four hits and walked one while striking out five. His Cactus League ERA now sits at an ugly 10.61. Fortunately, he still has plenty of time to get into regular season shape.

Jarrod Parker issued one run over 3 1/3 innings of work against the Brewers on Wednesday. Parker allowed two hits and two walks, an improvement over his previous start on Friday. He has been dependable for the A's over the last two seasons and is on track to start on Opening Day.

Jarrod Parker was annihilated in his Cactus League debut against the Giants on Friday, surrendering six runs on five hits in only 1 1/3 innings of work. Parker also walked one, hit a batter and fanned two in the forgettable performance. Slated to be the Opening Day starter for the A's this season, the 25-year-old hurler still has plenty of time to work out the kinks before the regular season begins.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Jarrod Parker will pitch on Friday, and remains on track to get the nod on Opening Day. The 25-year-old hurler struggled down the stretch in 2013, and has worked hard over the offseason to improve his conditioning to avoid a repeat. While he may be the listed as the A's top starter, his low strikeout rate keeps him as a third or fourth starter option in most mixed leagues.

Jarrod Parker said Saturday that he added five pounds over the winter and worked to improve his overall conditioning to avoid fatigue late in the season. The 25-year-old right-hander certainly faded down the stretch in 2013, posting a 6.41 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 16/6 K/BB ratio over 26 2/3 innings spanning five starts in September and October.
