Gee was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
The Rangers needed to clear a 40-man roster spot for Tyson Ross (Friday's starter), and Gee ultimately was the odd man out. The 31-year-old right-hander was a middling swingman during his time in the big leagues this season, producing a 4.15 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP. He has a good amount of major-league experience, so there's a good chance that he could attract some interest from other teams while he's exposed to waivers.

Gee won't start Tuesday's game against the Astros and will likely be available out of the bullpen, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Jeff Banister has decided to go with Nick Martinez as the team's new fifth starter for the time being after Gee failed to impress in his first start with the club last week against the Mets, as the right-hander conceded four runs on eight hits (including three home runs) and four walks over 3.1 innings. With Tyson Ross (shoulder) set to rejoin the Rangers by the end of the week and Cole Hamels (oblique) on track to come off the disabled list in July, it may only become more difficult for Gee to reemerge as a rotation arm in the weeks to come.

Gee appears likely to start Tuesday's game against the Astros, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Rangers have announced starters for games Monday (Yu Darvish) and Wednesday (Andrew Cashner), but it appears manager Jeff Banister and his staff are still deliberating between Gee and Nick Martinez for Tuesday's outing. Gee was hit hard in his first start with the Rangers on June 6 against the Mets, giving up four runs on eight hits and four walks over 3.1 innings, but Martinez hasn't performed much better in a starting role this season and impressed while pitching in long relief his last time out June 4. For that reason, Gee looks to have the edge for the Tuesday start, but after that, it's likely both players will have to settle for bullpen duty or a demotion to Triple-A Round Rock. Tyson Ross (shoulder) is expected to come off the 60-day disabled list and join the rotation for his season debut next weekend, at which point Gee or Martinez would lose out on a starting gig.

Gee gave up four runs on eight hits and four walks over only 3.1 innings in Wednesday's start against the Mets. He struck out two and didn't factor into the decision in an eventual 10-8 win.
EDGE Analysis
Gee started his MLB career with the Mets back in 2010 and played with them through 2015, so it was surely emotional for him to face his old club. Unfortunately, it didn't go well, as Gee was fortunate to get away with only four runs after putting a dozen men on base. The veteran righty may not hold onto a spot in the rotation after this effort.

Gee will start Tuesday's game against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
He had been used out of the bullpen to start his Rangers career, but Gee will move into the rotation for at least one start Tuesday. Gee gave the Rangers four strong innings out of the bullpen Friday, fanning four batters and allowing no runs. Although he's been in a relief role thus far with the Rangers, Gee did make nine starts at Triple-A Round Rock this season, spanning 51.0 innings.

Gee tossed 2.2 scoreless innings in relief during Tuesday's 9-5 victory over the Rays. He worked around three base hits and struck out one batter.
EDGE Analysis
After starter Nick Martinez put the Rangers behind by three runs after departing midway through the fifth inning, Gee stepped in to clot the bleeding before his team mounted a comeback in the late innings. The solid showing in his team debut should be enough to keep Gee at top of mind when the Rangers next require a replacement in the rotation, but by virtue of being used Tuesday, he'll be out of the running for the spot start Wednesday. Long reliever Austin Bibens-Dirkx will instead receiving his first start of the season, replacing the injured A.J. Griffin (side).

Gee has been called up by the Rangers, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Gee will replace the injured A.J. Griffin, who left Friday's start in the second inning with an intercostal injury. It isn't clear how long Griffin will be out, but Gee should be in line for at least one start with the Rangers while Griffin heals. Over nine Triple-A starts this year, Gee owns a 3.88 ERA and 1.29 WHIP.

Gee will stay with the Rangers and be optioned to Triple-A Round Rock to begin the season, TR Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gee had requested his release from the club Thursday, so the Rangers added him to the 40-man roster to keep him in the organization. The 30-year-old compiled 18 strikeouts and a 3.20 ERA over 19.2 innings this spring as he rehabbed from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. As part of a new deal with the team, Gee will serve as a starter at Round Rock, but could be an viable major league option if a fifth starter is needed. Either way, the fantasy value for veteran right-hander remains rather low.

Gee formally requested his release from the Rangers on Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Rangers now have to add Gee to the 40-man roster or grant him his release, though Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Gee is looking to be released if he's not added to the Opening Day roster. The 30-year-old, who is working his way back from thoracic outlook syndrome surgery he underwent last October, posted a 3.20 ERA with 18 strikeouts across 19.2 innings this spring. He will look to catch on elsewhere if the Rangers don't add him to its 25-man.

Gee was charged with three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks over 3.1 innings against the Indians on Saturday. He struck out three batters.
EDGE Analysis
The plan was for Gee to go four innings, but he battled fatigue late in the outing and only managed to get a total of 10 outs on 58 pitches. "I started off fine, felt good and was locating a lot of pitches," Gee told the Dallas Morning News. "Felt like I ran out of gas as the pitch count went up and lost my command. Overall, I'm healthy, so that's good." Gee, who underwent thoracic outlet syndrome surgery last fall, is competing with the likes of Mike Hauschild and Eddie Gamboa for the final spot in the rotation in the absence of Andrew Cashner (shoulder), Tyson Ross (shoulder) and Chi Chi Gonzalez (elbow).
