David Murphy went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI in Saturday's 5-2 victory in Seattle. Murphy's two-run double in the second off Felix Hernandez spotted Texas a 3-0 lead. Murphy, one of the league's few tormentors of King Felix, had another good game against the All-World hurler. Unfortunately, he hasn't been hitting anyone else, batting .229/.279/.405 through 47 games. Murphy does have eight hits in his last six games, hopefully portending the end to his batter's box misery.

While Murphy put the Rangers ahead in the fifth, Nelson Cruz's RBI double ended up being the difference in the ballgame. Rangers manager Ron Washington has used Murphy out of the fifth spot in nine out of 10 games this season, so he should have plenty of RBI opportunities if he can stick there. He's an underrated option in mixed leagues.

The Rangers have discussed a long-term contract extension with outfielder David Murphy. "When we went into the offseason, we identified a handful of players that we wanted to pursue multi-year deals with, and [Murphy] was one of them," Rangers assistant GM Thad Levine said Monday. "We have had conversations with [Murphy's agent] Mike Moye on that." The discussions could get more serious this spring. Murphy, 31, is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2013 season. He hit .304/.380/.479 in 2012.
