Rangers avoided arbitration with OF David Murphy by agreeing to a one-year, $5.75 million contract. It's the midpoint of the figures exchanged last week. Murphy, 31, was in his final year of arbitration and should be in line for a pretty nice deal next winter if he can repeat his performance from 2012, when he batted .304/.380/.479 with 15 home runs and 10 stolen bases.

David Murphy requested $6.5 million and was offered $5.05 million from the Rangers when arbitration figures were exchanged Friday. It was the third time that Murphy was arbitration eligible. The 31-year-old outfielder looks primed to step into a starting role in the Rangers outfield in 2013, and fantasy leaguers should take note of his double digit potential in power and speed.

David Murphy went 3-for-4 with a double, home run and all three of Texas' RBI in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Mariners. Murphy singled home two runs in the fourth before getting Hisashi Iwakuma for a solo shot in the sixth. The home run was his first since September 2, though he's batting .300 with eight RBI across 70 at-bats this month. Now hitting .312/.388/.493 on the season, Murphy has been one of the best platoon players in baseball.

David Murphy went 2-for-4 and hit his fifth homer Monday versus the Cardinals. The homer was Murphy's first extra-base hit since way back on Aug. 7. He's also drawn a total of two walks in three weeks. Murphy is pretty good at hitting singles, but that alone isn't enough to make him an adequate regular for the Mets.

David Murphy had a solid night at the plate, going 2-for-4 in Friday night's loss to the Blue Jays. The Rangers were only able to scratch out four hits against J.A. Happ and company, with Murphy being the only to tally a multi-hit effort. He's having a terrific season in a part-time role, hitting .300 with 10 homers, 44 RBI and eight stolen bases.

David Murphy went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI against the Yankees on Thursday. Murphy has been awesome in Arlington this year, hitting .366/.435/.582 in 153 at-bats. His .233/.331/.367 road line isn't so impressive, but he's still one of the most valuable platoon players in the league right now.

Rangers manager Ron Washington plans to use David Murphy as his regular left fielder for now. Murphy has started consecutive games with a left-hander on the mound and Washington plans to stick with him as long as he stays hot. "Murphy is going to get the bulk of [playing time] until he proves me wrong," said Washington. "I'm going on what he is doing right now. When I went to him and told him I planned to play him against lefties, he was hitting and we were struggling. I wanted to get as much offense as possible in the lineup. I'm going to put our best guys out there and not worry about matchup stuff." Murphy has nine homers and eight stolen bases in 272 plate appearances this year, so he's well worth using in deeper mixed fantasy leagues at the moment.

David Murphy hit a two-run double on Tuesday, plating the Rangers' only runs in a loss to the Angels. Anaheim starter Jered Weaver shut down the rest of the slumping Texas lineup. Murphy has been playing fairly regularly since the All-Star break, and has responded in kind, hitting .318 (14-for-44) over that 14-game stretch. As long as he's in the lineup, he makes for an interesting fourth or fifth outfielder in deeper mixed fantasy formats.

David Murphy led the way in Wednesday's 13-9 win over the Tigers, going 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs and five RBI. Murphy tagged Doug Fister for a three-run bomb in the second before getting him again for a solo shot in the fourth. The two-homer game was his first since last September 13, while the five RBI were a season-high. Murphy is hitting a robust .283/.374/.497 to go along with 21 extra-base hits and 30 RBI.

David Murphy went 3-for-5 with a home run Tuesday in the Rangers' 9-1 defeat of the Diamondbacks. Murphy's two-run shot off Ian Kennedy in the sixth inning gave the Rangers a 3-1 lead. He's been very useful in a platoon role for Texas again this season, hitting .263 with six homers and 19 RBI in 156 at-bats. With the uncertainty around his playing time, he's a difficult player to own in weekly fantasy leagues. But Murphy can be a serious asset if deployed correctly in daily formats.
