Murphy is nursing a sprained ankle, which he suffered in Friday's exhibition, the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes reports. Murphy is having a pretty rough spring at the plate, but may still be ticketed for a bench role this season. Considering he had a .703 OPS in 2014 and a .656 OPS in 2013, there is not much reason for optimism from a fantasy perspective, even if he finds his way to increased playing time.

Murphy is hitting just .188 (3-for-16) in Cactus League play this spring. Spring training stats aren't going to mean much for a veteran like Murphy but the encouraging health reports from Brandon Moss and Michael Bourn may put the squeeze on Murphy's playing time when the season starts. Nick Swisher is still in the process of working his way back to full health but Murphy may need a change of scenery to carve out much of a role this season.

Murphy is out of the lineup Saturday against the Tigers. Murphy is out for the fourth time in five games Saturday, giving way to Ryan Rayburn in right field. He hasn't really been struggling at the plate, but the team has four outfielders for three spots, and with Carlos Santana serving as the designated hitter, Murphy is the odd man out again.

Murphy is out of the lineup for Game 1 of the Indians' doubleheader with the Twins on Thursday. It's a little odd that Murphy is out of the lineup with a right-hander in Kyle Gibson on the mound for Game 1, but he'll give way in right field to Tyler Holt nonetheless. The Twins will bring another righty to the hill for Game 2, so there's a good chance that Murphy will still get his fair share of at-bats Thursday.

Murphy (oblique) was activated from the 15-day DL on Friday. After successfully running the bases Tuesday, Murphy joined Triple-A Columbus and homered in their International League semifinals game Wednesday, his first game action in about a month. He was slated to play seven innings Thursday, but with both Columbus and Double-A Akron on the road for their respective playoff games Friday, the Indians will welcome Murphy back to the active roster. It's uncertain whether Murphy will remain limited immediately upon his return, but it seems entirely possible.

Murphy (oblique) took 45 swings off a tee Tuesday and will continue to ramp up his rehab, MLB.com reports. "He's going to continue to ramp up his swings this week. He's been so diligent, but you can't push it," manager Terry Francona said. The Indians may have some difficulty finding a rehab spot for Murphy as the minor league seasons come to a close but he's getting closer to a return. The Indians will probably have a further grasp on the next steps over the weekend.
