Hernandez (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Sunday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hernandez has been slowed by shoulder inflammation the past two weeks but seems to have turned a corner in his recovery. He'll still need to face hitters in live batting practice and then likely head out on a brief rehab assignment before the Reds are comfortable activating him from the 10-day disabled list.

Hernandez (shoulder) played catch with no pain Monday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Next up for Hernandez is long toss from 75 feet. The 32-year-old still appears to have significant work to do in order to be game ready, but looks to have avoided any setbacks with the shoulder inflammation thus far. Jared Hughes and Wandy Peralta should continue to serve as setup men to closer Raisel Iglesias for the Reds.

Hernandez (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day DL.
EDGE Analysis
He is dealing with right shoulder inflammation, so it's possible he needs more than the minimum 10 days to get right. Once healthy, he should take over a setup role in the Reds' bullpen.

Hernandez (shoulder) was scheduled to resume light throwing duties Monday, but the Reds don't yet know if he'll be available for Opening Day, MLB.com's Dave Sessions reports. "We haven't moved away from his availability on the Opening Day roster, but we certainly would like to have him throw today and tomorrow to be able to define his readiness," manager Bryan Price said.
EDGE Analysis
The last two-to-three spots in the bullpen for the Reds remain undecided, pending Hernandez's availability. Among the candidates that could get a roster slot if Hernandez is out include Austin Brice, Zack Weiss, Vance Worley and Justin Nicolino.

Hernandez will stop throwing for the next couple days due to shoulder stiffness, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The club failed to provide any sort of information, so it remains to be seen whether Hernandez will be ready for Opening Day. The right-hander is expected to take on an important setup role for the Reds this season after signing a two-year deal in late January. In 2017, Hernandez posted a 3.11 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over 55 innings of relief split between the Angels and Diamondbacks.

Hernandez signed a two-year contract with the Reds on Tuesday. According to Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the deal is worth $5 million.
EDGE Analysis
After failing to make the Giants' Opening Day roster, Hernandez was released and spent time with Atlanta's Triple-A affiliate before being traded to the Angels and subsequently making his way back to the majors. While he's on the wrong side of 30, Hernandez posted a respectable 3.11 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 52:9 K:BB across 55 innings of relief between the Angels and Diamondbacks in 2017, proving he still has plenty left in the tank. The right-hander also racked up 18 holds last season, and seeing as he figures to continue to work as a setup man with his new club, Hernandez could prove to be a cheap source of holds in 2018.

Hernandez worked around a base hit to turn in a scoreless eighth inning en route to his 17th hold of the season in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Hernandez has been on a roll lately, turning in scoreless outings in 10 of his last 11 appearances. He worked as the primary setup man to Archie Bradley on Sunday with closer Fernando Rodney receiving the afternoon off, but when all three players are available, Hernandez probably ranks third on the bullpen depth chart.

Hernandez tossed a perfect eighth inning and notched a strikeout in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Hernandez was also credited with his 13th hold of the season, and his fifth as a member of the Diamondbacks. It appears the right-hander may rank behind only Fernando Rodney and Archie Bradley in the Diamondbacks' bullpen hierarchy, as he entered the contest after Andrew Chafin, whose effectiveness in a setup role has waned in the second half. That being said, with Rodney in no danger of losing the closing gig and Bradley having been the Diamondbacks' top reliever all season, there's little chance of Hernandez entering the conversation for saves anytime soon.

Hernandez came in to record the final out of the ninth inning Saturday against the Cubs, nailing down his first save of the year.
EDGE Analysis
The Diamondbacks had a 6-0 lead heading into the ninth inning, but closer Fernando Rodney was still summoned and he failed to finish the inning, creating a save situation for Hernandez in the process. This was a one-off opportunity for Hernandez, who has not given up a run in four innings since joining the Diamondbacks a couple weeks ago.

Hernandez struck out the lone batter he faced to collect his first hold as a member of the Diamondbacks in the team's 10-8 win over the Cubs on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Hernandez entered the contest in the top of the seventh inning after starter Zack Greinke was pulled upon allowing the first batter of the inning, Javier Baez, to reach base on an infield single. Though Baez was able to steal second off Hernandez, the reliever got the job done in his team debut, striking out Ben Zobrist before giving way to Andrew Chafin. While Hernandez was used for matchup purposes Thursday, he seems more likely to make full-inning appearances more often than not with his new team, likely forming a key part of the bridge to closer Fernando Rodney.
