Hernandez (shoulder) threw a live batting practice session Wednesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hernandez, who has been sidelined due to shoulder soreness, fired 25 pitches to a pair of hitters (Michael Lorenzen and Taylor Trammell) and reported feeling good afterwards. If he checks out OK on Thursday, it sounds like the right-hander could be cleared to make his spring debut over the weekend. Assuming that happens, and Hernandez continues to progress without setbacks, he should still have enough time to get ready for Opening Day.

Hernandez threw a bullpen session Monday and his shoulder is starting to feel better, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hernandez is tentatively expected to see his first game action over the weekend, presuming his live batting practice session Wednesday goes well. "It all depends on how the live BP goes," Hernandez said. "Playing catch, I feel fine. It's ramping up the intensity is what inflamed my shoulder."

Hernandez hasn't pitched in any spring training games yet and is dealing with right shoulder soreness, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. He's next expected to pitch a bullpen session Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The Reds earlier had said that Hernandez and Raisel Iglesias were on 'alternate schedules' this spring to manage their workload. But it's unclear whether that decision was made before or after Hernandez came down with shoulder soreness.

Hernandez recorded four outs Tuesday against the Dodgers, picking up his 13th hold of the season.
EDGE Analysis
With the outing, Hernandez lowered his ERA to 2.35 and WHIP to 0.99. He's posted a 58:16 K:BB over 57.1 innings to go along with a 5-0 record. He and Jared Hughes have been an effective bridge to closer Raisel Iglesias.

Hernandez (4-0) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings Friday night against the Phillies and got the win.
EDGE Analysis
Hernandez has been a nice addition for the Reds. In 39.1 innings he's posted a 1.83 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 11 holds and a 37:13 K:BB ratio. With Amir Garrett hurt, Hernandez could pick up extra work in a set-up capacity in the near future.

Hernandez gave up a homer Saturday to the Cubs' Javier Baez as part of the Reds' bullpen collapse. It was his first homer allowed since September of 2017, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It was a rare bad day for all three of the Reds' top set-up guys - Hernandez, Amir Garrett and Jared Hughes all allowed runs. Hernandez still has a 2.08 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 32:13 K:BB in 30.1 innings this year.

Hernandez recorded the first two outs of the seventh inning in Thursday's win over the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Hernandez's past closing experience put him on the short list of possible replacements for Raisel Iglesias (left biceps) in the ninth inning. However, it seem Jared Hughes is the preferred option at the moment, as he worked the ninth inning in a tie game at home Wednesday and then got the save Thursday. Thus Hernandez's appeal remains limited mostly to NL-only and leagues that count holds.

Hernandez could factor into the ninth-inning mix with Raisel Iglesias (biceps) landing on the disabled list Wednesday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic Cincinnati reports.
EDGE Analysis
Interim manager Jim Riggleman named five different relievers who could close in Iglesias' absence: Hernandez, Jared Hughes, Wandy Peralta, Amir Garrett and Michael Lorenzen. Hernandez has pitched well since his return from the DL in late April, and he has some past closing experience, having recorded 22 saves in his nine big-league seasons. Iglesias' injury is to his non-throwing arm, so it will likely be a short absence, but nevertheless there is a window of opportunity in Cincinnati and Hernandez looks like as strong a bet as anyone to see save chances.

Hernandez (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list prior to Friday's game.
EDGE Analysis
In a corresponding move, the club optioned Phil Gosselin to Triple-A Louisville. Hernandez wound up appearing in a pair of rehab outings with Louisville, and didn't experience any sort of problems with the shoulder inflammation that has lingered since late March. Expect the 32-year-old to slide into a late-inning role with the Reds' bullpen moving forward.

The Reds are planning to send Hernandez (shoulder) to Triple-A Louisville on Friday to begin a rehab assignment, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hernandez completed a 25-pitch bullpen session Tuesday and experienced no apparent issues with his right shoulder, so he'll receive the green light to start facing hitters. Since-fired manager Bryan Price said Wednesday that he expected Hernandez to require 2-to-3 outings in the minors before being ready to return from the 10-day disabled list. If that plan still holds, Hernandez could be activated at some point late next week.
