Coghlan (ribs) exited Saturday's game against the Mets in the fourth inning, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Javier Baez came in to pinch hit for Coghlan in the top half of the fourth inning after Coghlan aggravated his already sore ribs. According to Rosenthal, Coghlan has been battling through the rib soreness for a few days. If Coghlan ends up needing a stint on the disabled list, the Cubs could activate Tommy La Stella (hamstring) off the DL in a corresponding move to take his spot on the active roster.

Coghlan is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
The Cubs are facing a lefty in John Lamb, so Coghlan will take a seat Tuesday with Matt Szczur taking over in center while Jason Heyward slides back over to right field. Chicago is facing another lefty Wednesday in Cody Reed, so Coghlan could be looking at a multi-day absence from the lineup.

Coghlan returns to the lineup, playing left field and batting fifth Friday against Miami.
EDGE Analysis
Coghlan returns to the starting lineup following Thursday's game where he made just a pinch hit appearance. The 31-year old has provided versatility in the Cubs outfield since his acquisition on June 9 but his role is likely to diminish once everyday guys, Jorge Soler and Dexter Fowler, return from the DL. Until then however, Coghlan has a chance to prove he should stick around in the lineup.

Coghlan is out of the lineup Thursday against Miami, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Coghlan will sit with Javier Baez manning third base and Kris Bryant getting the start in left field. Coghlan could use a game off as he's been slumping mightily, slashing just .128/.218/.218 over his last 31 games. He's recorded no multi-hit games during that time.

Coghlan led off against the Cardinals on Tuesday, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two walks.
EDGE Analysis
Coghlan was atrocious for the A's earlier this season, but his return to Chicago has been positive so far. He's slashing .294/.455/.412 with seven runs in 17 at-bats.

Coghlan is batting leadoff for the Cubs on Sunday against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Coghlan hasn't hit in the leadoff spot all season, as that role is typically reserved for Dexter Fowler, who is sitting Sunday due to a hamstring injury. Manager Joe Maddon will put Coghlan and his .308 on-base percentage to the test Sunday, but don't expect this move to continue into the week.

Coghlan is out of the lineup as Chicago battles Washington on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Coghlan is taking a seat with lefty Gio Gonzalez on the mound for the Nationals. Kris Bryant is taking Coghlan's spot in left field with Javier Baez making his 14th start at third base this season. It's not a surprise that Coghlan is resting against a lefty as he's gone 1-for-18 (.056) with six strikeouts against southpaws this season.

Coghlan was traded to the Cubs on Thursday in exchange for Arismendy Alcantara, Joe Stiglich of CSN California reports.
EDGE Analysis
Coghlan will be heading back to his former team with Thursday's deal that sends him to the Cubs. He is an immensely versatile player that can stick at in the infield or in a corner outfield spot. With Jorge Soler on the disabled list for the Cubs, Coghlan could see playing time in left field once he reports to the team. However, Coghlan could also be a fill-in in the infield for the injured Tommy La Stella as well.

Coghlan is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
With a lefty on the hill for the Twins, the A's will use righty Jake Smolinski in right field Wednesday in place of Coghlan. The utility outfielder, Coghlan, figures to rejoin the lineup when the A's face righty Doug Fister in Houston on Friday.
