Coghlan is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
With the A's facing left-hander Martin Perez on Wednesday, Coghlan and his .067 average against southpaws will take a seat. Tyler Ladendorf will take over Coghlan's post at second base Wednesday and Coghlan can be expected to return to the lineup for Thursday's series opener against Ivan Nova and the Yankees.

Coghlan is out of the lineup for Monday's matchup with the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
The Rangers are giving the ball to left-hander Derek Holland, so Coghlan will head to the bench and take the day off. Tyler Ladendorf will get a rare start while the 30-year-old rests.

He was hitting seventh in the order, while starting at third base for Wednesday's matchup against Felix Hernandez. Coghlan's struggles at the plate have lingered beyond the first month of the season, as he's now hitting .155/.228/.321 for the A's thus far while striking out at a significantly increased clip (26.1%) compared to his levels with the Cubs over the previous two seasons (18.7%).

EDGE Analysis
Khris Davis is filling in at DH on Tuesday, so Coghlan will be called upon to handle the left field duties. He's hitting just .161 through 31 at-bats, but will look to get it going as he'll bat second against Michael Pineda.

Coghlan went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Coghlan has posted averages of .269/.345/.519 with three home runs and 11 RBI this spring. After spending the last two years with the Cubs, Coghlan will bring versatility to the A's as he played at least three games at five different positions in 2015. The 30-year-old will likely be the starting left fielder and could get see some time at second base and third base throughout the season.

Coghlan was traded to the A's on Thursday in exchange for Aaron Brooks, ESPN Chicago's Jesse Rogers reports.
EDGE Analysis
This move makes a ton of sense for both sides, as Coghlan wasn't going to see the kind of playing time this year with Chicago that his 2015 season warrants, and the A's had a plethora of interchangeable starting pitchers. Last year Coghlan hit 16 homers with 11 steals in 503 plate appearances, and he could challenge for a second double-double season in a row with Oakland, despite the downgrade in ballparks. It seems likely that the A's are going to play Coghlan in left field, with Khris Davis taking the bulk of the at-bats at DH, as Coghlan is the superior outfield defender. This also gives the A's a backup plan in center field if Billy Burns were to regress at the plate, as Coghlan could play there in a pinch. Regardless of where he is deployed, the A's will likely sit him most days against lefties, against whom Coghlan has a .630 career OPS.
