Nonetheless, he shouldn't face much competition at the hot corner this year and has been consistently about a league-average hitter since coming to the Bronx, so he could still have some fantasy value particularly in deeper leagues.

It doesn't appear as though the third baseman is dealing with any ailments in particular, but manager Joe Girardi decided to give a couple of his veterans a full day off early in the spring as a precautionary measure. Headley is coming off another disappointing season at the plate, slashing .253/.331/.385 while striking out in over 25% of his at-bats. He doesn't face much competition at the hot corner in the spring, but if Headley's struggles continue in 2017, the Yankees may eventually look for another solution at third.
