Romine agreed to a one-year, $1.05 million contract with the Mariners on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
A waiver acquisition from Detroit last month, Romine appeared in a career-high 124 games last season. He packs very little punch with the bat, as evidenced by his wRC+ marks ranging from 57-71 over the past five years (100 is average). However, he can literally play every position on the diamond, as he showed on the final day of 2017 -- Romine became the fifth player in history to play all nine positions in a single game.

Romine was claimed off waivers by Seattle on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Romine hit .233/.289/.336 with four home runs and 25 RBI during 124 games with the Tigers this past season, and will join the Mariners as a super-utility man. The 32-year-old is set to be the fourth or fifth outfielder for Seattle, while filling in for Robinson Cano, Jean Segura and Kyle Seager in the infield when they need some rest.

Romine is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Romine will get the day off after starting each of the previous two games for the Tigers, going 1-for-6 (.167) with a walk. Alex Presley will draw the start in left field in his place.

Romine went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Romine did all the damage for the Tigers in this one out of the No. 8 hole. The 31-year-old offers tremendous position flexibility (manager Brad Ausmus has said he could play all nine positions in a game before the regular season concludes), but he's just a .231 hitter who doesn't do a ton at the plate.

Romine could play all nine positions in a game before the regular season concludes, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Brad Ausmus does not some keen on using Romine at all nine spots either during the Tigers' current homestand or in a game with implications for the opponent, but he did not rule out Romine getting that chance at some point. Romine has already played seven positions this season and even has logged a relief appearance, so the final piece of the puzzle will be a stint behind the plate.

Romine is not in the lineup Monday against the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
With Mikie Mahtook battling a groin injury, Romine has spent a bit more time in the Tigers' outfield recently. However, he hasn't been able to deliver at the plate as he's gone just 5-for-25 (.200) since the start of September. He'll head to the bench Monday while Tyler Collins heads to left field.

Romine is out of the lineup Sunday against the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Romine had started in both of the Tigers' last two games, but was on the bench for the preceding four contests, and it looks like that will be a regular occurrence in September as manager Brad Ausmus looks to find more at-bats for younger, higher-ceiling options. Due to his ability to play all over the diamond along with every outfield position, Romine should still see at least a couple starts per week in September, but don't expect him to do much offensively with any opportunities he receives. He's slashed just .239/.299/.363 over 286 plate appearances on the campaign.

Romine will start at third base and bat second Sunday against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Primary third baseman Nick Castellanos (wrist) is back in the lineup following a two-game absence, but manager Brad Ausmus will ease him into the fold as a designated hitter, opening up a spot in the infield for Romine. It will be the third consecutive start for the utility man, who had played center field and right field in the previous contests. Romine would seemingly have an easier path to playing time in right field, where usual starter Alex Presley has contributed a meager .237/.293/.263 line since returning from the disabled list earlier this month.

Romine is out of the lineup Saturday against the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
Alex Presley, who was activated from the 10-day disabled list Friday, will get the start in right field and could take over the everyday role heading into the season's homestretch. Romine hasn't done much to earn additional playing time, going 5-for-24 this month despite starting the last six games.

Romine will man left field and bat eighth Wednesday against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Romine's versatility will allow him to pick up his fourth consecutive start at a different position, after he previously earned nods at shortstop, right field and first base. With the Tigers eager to give some of their veteran players more frequent rest over the final two months of the season, Romine could end up picking up something approximating regular at-bats, despite the lack of a direct line to a starting role at any position.
