Marcum signed a minor league deal with the Indians on Tuesday, which includes a spring training invitation, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Marcum did not appear in a major league game last season after inking a minor league deal with the Indians in December. A neck issue limited his ability to pitch, and he was shut down from mid-May until early-August. Marcum was able to make nine minor league appearances - mostly at Triple-A Columbus - in which he posted a 2.08 EAR over 17.1 total innings. The 32-year-old will look to remain healthy in 2015 as he attempts to redeem himself in the big leagues after going 1-10 with a 5.29 ERA for the Mets in 2013.

Marcum (shoulder) was activated from the disabled list and sent to Triple-A Columbus, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports. Marcum will work out of the bullpen at Triple-A for now, as he has only been stretched to the point of pitching 2-3 innings. He will work his way back up the innings ladder before being available to the Indians as a starter.

Shaun Marcum has been shut down in extended spring training due to shoulder problems. Not a big surprise given his injury history. Marcum is rehabbing from thoracic outlet surgery and doesn't appear close to returning to the majors.

Shaun Marcum (thoracic outlet surgery) threw three innings in his most recent extended spring training appearance. Marcum is progressing slowly but surely in his recovery from thoracic outlet surgery. The Indians have provided no timetable for the veteran right-hander's return. He has an opt-out clause for May 24 on his minor league contract.

Shaun Marcum's next opt-out date is May 24. Marcum accepted an assignment to Triple-A Columbus last week to continue his rehabilitation from thoracic outlet surgery. The veteran right-hander could become a rotation option for the Tribe by late April.

Indians reassigned RHP Shaun Marcum, RHP Matt Capps, C Matt Treanor, and C Luke Carlin to minor league camp. No real surprises among this round of cuts. Marcum is on his way back from thoracic outlet surgery and will continue his rehab against Triple-A competition.

Shaun Marcum may not opt out of his contract with the Indians if he's not on the Opening Day roster. "This organization has treated me well," Marcum said on Wednesday morning. "The training staff, the front office, coaching staff, the guys in the clubhouse. This is where I want to be, so we'll see what happens if that day comes. The main thing right now is to try to pitch for the Cleveland Indians." Marcum is working back slowly from thoracic outlet surgery and his prospects for Opening Day are bleak, but he threw well in a live batting practice session Tuesday. The right-hander could provide nice starting depth for the club if he does decide to stick around.

Shaun Marcum (thoracic outlet surgery) will throw another live batting practice session Tuesday. Marcum has been brought along slowly this camp as he works his way back from thoracic outlet surgery. He won't have time to compete for the fifth starter job but should serve as nice rotation insurance at Triple-A.

Shaun Marcum (thoracic outlet surgery) has been limited to throwing bullpen sessions thus far in camp. "There doesn't need to be a hard target," Indians manager Terry Francona said of Marcum's timeline. "That's not fair to him. But he's doing pretty well." Francona also said the right-hander could still be a week away from throwing live batting practice to hitters. Marcum is in camp as a non-roster invite, so his chances of heading north with the club grow slimmer with each passing day.

Shaun Marcum (thoracic outlet surgery) resumed throwing from a mound Monday. Coming back from thoracic outlet surgery, Marcum is a little behind the other Indians pitchers but threw 25 fastballs and changeups Monday with no issues. The veteran right-hander will compete for the final spot in the Tribe's rotation, but manager Terry Francona says it's not a given that Marcum will be ready for Opening Day. "He's worked too hard," Francona said. "It never fails, you come to Spring Training, everybody's all geared up, the volume of throwing increases and then you have looming Opening Day. But I think that's an artificial deadline. We tried to beat that home with a lot of guys, that that is not the end all. Keep the big picture in mind."
