Konerko is in the lineup Sunday for the final game of his career. Konerko will make one more start in a lengthy career that began in 1997. He will play first base and bat cleanup Sunday against Royals Yordano Ventura.

Konerko is expected to start each of the final three games of the season against the Royals, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Though a little weakened by a recent hand injury, Konerko won't miss out on the opportunity to give White Sox fans a final bow as he heads into retirement after the season. Konerko is no longer the perennial power threat he used to be, but because many managers use the final weekend to rest their regulars, the 38-year-old may be one of the few players across the league that can be marked down for guaranteed at-bats.

Konerko (hand) will rest Saturday but is expected to be in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Konerko is still recovering from a hand injury that left him out of the lineup for a significant amount of time until he was able to play Friday. While not trying to rush into anything, Konerko will cautiously rest up before his appearance Sunday.

Konerko (hand) is back in the lineup Friday against the Rays. The training staff has signed off on Konerko returning to action, after his fractured hand held up well during an extended batting practice session earlier in the week. It will be his first start since Sept. 2. It's uncertain how Konerko will be deployed over the final week, but it's hard to imagine he'll play everyday given his age and the nature of the injury.

Konerko (hand) could return Wednesday, but says he will certainly be ready by Friday, CSN Chicago's Dan Hayes reports. He hit 30 pitches in extended batting practice Tuesday, and while Konerko is close to returning, there isn't a set plan for how Chicago plans to deploy him over the final 11 games. The White Sox are holding Paul Konerko Day on Sept. 27, so he'll definitely be in the lineup for that affair, but it's doubtful he'll be used like an everyday player down the stretch.

Konerko (hand) felt only normal soreness after taking swings in the batting cage Saturday. Konerko is presumably ready to play again, and he should return to action some time this week. If he does not play in the Chicago's upcoming three-game set with the Royals, he is confident he will be ready to play in next weekend's series with the Rays.

Konerko (hand) hopes to swing with his fractured hand over the weekend, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports. Konerko has been progressing well, and is hopeful that he will be able to return some point during the team's nine-game road trip starting Monday. The swelling in his hand has gone done, so if he can swing pain-free he could return next week.

The swelling in Konerko's hand has gone down, and he is hoping to return to action before the season ends, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports. It's not certain when Konerko will play again, but he figures he will at least be able to play in the White Sox's final home series later this month, and is optimistic about returning sooner.

Konerko has been diagnosed with a fractured sesamoid bone in his left hand, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. The injury, which occurred on a tag play at first base earlier in the week, will sideline Konerko for at least the next seven days but manager Robin Ventura said he is "very hopeful" the 38-year-old will play again before the end of the month. Ventura said recently that he would like to get Konerko more playing time over the final few weeks, after Konerko put the team first and accepted a reduced role this season.

Manager Robin Ventura said he would like to give Konerko more playing time in the season's final month, the Chicago Tribune reports. "I'm sure he'll get a few more for everybody's sake," Ventura said. The White Sox's captain has served in a limited role in his final season, primarily serving as the team's DH and sometime-1B against lefties en route to 179 at-bats. The team might up that time in the final month to give him a "proper" sendoff, but don't expect it to increase too significantly -- he has rarely played on back-to-back days this season, so it might be difficult to play a full week of games.
