Oscar Taveras (ankle) is considered day-to-day. Taveras rolled his left ankle while leaving the batter's box Monday at Triple-A Memphis and is not in the Redbirds' lineup on Tuesday night. But Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak -- who is in Memphis this week -- says the club is just being cautious with its top outfield prospect. Taveras missed most of the 2013 season due to right ankle issues. He should make his major league debut at some point this summer.

Cardinals prospect outfielder Oscar Taveras left Monday's game with Triple-A Memphis due to an issue with his left ankle. It's worth noting that Taveras had surgery on his right ankle last year, so at least he didn't aggravate the condition. No word yet on how long he'll be sidelined, but it's still a tough break considering the recent buzz about a potential call-up.

Cardinals prospect outfielder Oscar Taveras, who was making his first start of the season in center field on Monday, left the game in the seventh inning after calling for a trainer. Taveras looked like he was knocking on the door in St. Louis, but his status coudl be in question after leaving the game. There has not been any word as to the severity of the injury, or if there was an injury.

Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras is making his first start of the season in center field for Triple-A Memphis Monday. Taveras is hitting .297/.348/.500 with three homers and 12 RBI for Memphis this season, which includes a .368/.415/.526 line over his last 10 games. The Cards had been keeping the top prospect in the outfield corners, but it's clear that his surgically-repaired right ankle is feeling well enough for him to try center field again. With Peter Bourjos and Jon Jay sharing center field with the big club, Taveras could potentially force a promotion if he keeps hitting and shows he's comfortable in center.

Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras hit his third home run of the season on Saturday for Triple-A Memphis. Taveras is hitting .283/.328/.483 for the season, which includes hits in his previous six games while striking out zero times. He is not lighting up Triple-A, but he is hitting enough to make him the first call-up in the event there is a need in St. Louis.

Cardinals prospect outfielder Oscar Taveras hit a two-run home run in the first inning on Wednesday night. Taveras is hitting .192/.250/.462 over the first seven games of the Triple-A season with two home runs and one double. He has also struck out six times so far this season, which would put him on a pace well above his current season high of 56 strikeouts. This could be a product of all of the time he missed due to injury, so keep an eye on his strikeout rate.

Cardinals prospect outfielder Oscar Taveras will held out of action for at least one day after he slipped coming out of the batter's box during a minor league game on Monday and appeared to be favoring his right leg. Taveras had right ankle surgery last year and has been bothered by right hamstring tightness this spring, so the Cardinals don't want to take any chances. The 21-year-old has a world of talent, but he just needs to stay on the field.

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak hopes that Oscar Taveras (hamstring) will be able to play in minor league games by Saturday. Taveras was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday after being limited for most of the spring. While he missed most of 2013 due to an ankle injury, his right hamstring has been the bigger issue in recent days.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny confirmed that Oscar Taveras' odds of making the team are nearly insurmountable. Taveras, coming off right ankle surgery last season, is currently shelved with right hamstring tightness. "It's not possible - without him being healthy," Matheny said of Taveras' shot to crack the Opening Day roster. "He needed for everything to go right for that to be a possibility. It's definitely something that's holding him up." Taveras, one of the game's best prospects, will undoubtedly make his big league debut later on in the summer.
