Cardinals prospect outfielder Oscar Taveras (ankle) is still about 10 days away from playing in rehab games. Taveras has been shut down since mid July due to continued issues with a high ankle sprain. The 21-year-old is one of the best prospects in the game, but he'll need to get back to 100 percent before he's a legitimate consideration for a September call-up. His true impact likely won't be felt until 2014 at this point.

Top prospect Oscar Taveras has been shut down for another 10 days because of his high ankle sprain. Taveras resumed playing in games Monday, but he was still struggling with the injury, which he originally sustained in May and which he aggravated in late June. The latest setback will keep him off the field until the end of the month. Perhaps he'll still see the majors in September, but he probably won't be a big factor then.

Oscar Taveras (ankle) is expected to miss a few more days before returning to action on his minor league rehab assignment. Taveras appeared in one minor league rehab game with the Gulf Coast League Cardinals on Monday, but hasn't returned to action since. The organization is obviously playing it safe with their highly prized prospect, but the likelihood of him becoming a major fantasy contributor in 2013 is diminishing by the day.

Oscar Taveras (ankle) was 1-for-1 with a double and walk in a rehab game on Monday for the Cardinals' affiliate in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League. The game was Taveras' first since June 23 when he landed back on the disabled list after aggravating a previous right ankle injury. The 21-year-old started the game in center field and made two plate appearances before he was lifted for a pinch-runner in the third inning. Taveras has batted .306/.341/.462 with 12 doubles and five home runs through 46 games for Triple-A Memphis. As long as he can stay healthy, he should contribute in the major leagues later this season and be ready for an everyday role in 2014.

Oscar Taveras (ankle) will not participate in the 2013 Futures Game this month at Citi Field. Taveras is beginning to turn the corner in his recovery from a high ankle sprain, but he's not going to be 100 percent healthy by the time the July 14 Future Games rolls around. The 21-year-old top outfield prospect should climb his way to St. Louis at some point this season. He's batting .306/.341/.462 with five homers, five steals and 32 RBI in 46 games at the Triple-A level.

Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras has been placed on Triple-A Memphis' disabled list after aggravating his right ankle injury. Taveras suffered the setback on Sunday, though he had been noticeably gimpy before that. It's not clear how long he'll be sidelined, but the top prospect missed a month the first time he hurt the ankle and the Cards will take things cautiously with him. Obviously he won't be promoted for a while.

Cardinals outfield prospect Oscar Taveras is experiencing lingering soreness in his right ankle. Taveras suffered a high ankle sprain over a month ago at Triple-A Memphis and is still having problems with it. The Cards have no immediate need in their outfield and seem likely to play this one safe by giving their top prospect another extended period of rest. Taveras, 20, is batting .306/.341/.462 with five home runs, five stolen bases and 32 RBI in 46 games this season at the Triple-A level. He should reach the majors at some point in 2013.

Oscar Taveras left Sunday's game at Triple-A Memphis with an apparent injury. Taveras returned from the disabled list earlier this month after missing over three weeks with a high-ankle sprain, so it's possible he suffered a setback. The Cardinals' top prospect is batting .304/.339/.456 with five home runs and 29 RBI over 45 games at the Triple-A level.

Oscar Taveras went 1-for-4 with a double in his return to action for Triple-A Memphis on Saturday. Taveras wound up missing nearly a month of action with a high ankle sprain. Arguably the game's top hitting prospect, he's batting .315/.348/.480 with four homers, 20 RBI and five steals over 32 games for Memphis this season.

Cardinals prospect Oscar Taveras is dealing with a high-ankle sprain. This confirms that the injury is more severe than originally thought. Taveras, out since May 12, was placed on the disabled list with Triple-A Memphis last week. The Cardinals have yet to set a timetable for his return to action.
